Kentucky Derby 2012 Post Time: When and Where You Can Catch Exciting Race

The 138th Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs will live up to its lofty expectations. Expect massive anticipation, a solid race and, most importantly, a wild and wacky finish, with an underdog on top when it's all said and done.

Kentucky Derby Coverage

This year's Kentucky Derby field is wide open. There are only a few favorites, while the rest are all possibilities.

Favorites

Bodemeister

At 4-1 odds, Bodemeister is a favorite to win the 2012 Kentucky Derby. That doesn't mean much because this race is truly wide open, but it just shows you the talent this horse provides.

Gemologist

At 6-1 odds, Gemologist is plenty capable of winning the Run for the Roses. Expect a solid race for this horse.

Union Rags

At 9-2 odds, this stallion is one of the most talented horses in the 2012 field. He has failed to live up to expectations in the past, but a breakthrough may be on the way.

Horses to keep an eye on

Hansen

The two-year-old colt has been strong in recent races. Many believe that his body type and energy level won't hold up at the Derby, but I see him pulling through.

Also, he has post position, so we'll find out what he has in the tank down the stretch.

Take Charge Indy 

Calvin Borel will ride Take Charge Indy in the 2012 Kentucky Derby. Borel has won three of five at Churchill Downs, amazingly.

Don't discount the importance of jockeys, because they have more to do with the outcome than one would believe.

Borel has the experience, knowledge of the track and ability to get the maximum out of any horse. Keep an eye on Take Charge Indy.

Prediction

My pick has been Hansen from the get-go. I love his energy, despite his smaller build, and I think he'll prove some people wrong.
