Mayweather vs. Cotto: Last-Second Predictions for Money Mayweather's Performance
Saturday night's fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Miguel Cotto will remind fans from around the world why boxing is still a great sport.
This fight is going the distance, but I think Mayweather improves his record to 43-0. Here are some predictions for the fight.
Money's ability to dodge punches will frustrate Cotto
Cotto must be as patient as possible against Mayweather. Cotto's patience and ability to stay in the fight mentally will be challenged unlike any time in his career.
If he can maintain enough focus, he has a fighter's chance.
Similar to many of Mayweather's opponents, Cotto won't be able to maintain enough focus throughout the duration of the fight. That's when we see the greatness of Money Mayweather.
Money Mayweather's speed will be the ultimate difference-maker
Mayweather will have the advantage in several areas, but speed is on top of that list. His unbelievable speed offensively and defensively separates him from fighters.
We may not see Cotto struggle with Mayweather's speed early in the fight, but in its latter duration, expect Cotto to be worn down.
Judges will give close decision to Mayweather
If this fight "appears" close, don't expect Cotto to be given the edge. Boxing can't afford to have Mayweather lose because that would take everything away from the possible super-fight with Manny Pacquiao.
My interest level for that possible matchup would significantly be decreased if Mayweather were to lose his first career fight before stepping in the ring with Pac-Man.
I'm expecting this fight to go the distance, but I think Mayweather will walk away with the victory.
