Kentucky Derby 2012 Post Positions: Ranking Top 3 Horses at This Year's Event

Luis BatlleJun 7, 2018

Easily the biggest spectacle in horse racing and one of the major sporting events of the world, the 2012 Kentucky Derby is now upon us.

Bodemeister and Union Rags lead the way in the odds, boasting 9/2 odds heading in to Saturday's event of epic proportions.

With uneasy weather conditions and a strong field this year, there is no question this has every bit of the makings to be a strong race.

These are the top three horses heading into the Derby.

Bodemeister

Odds: 9/2

Experts on the race's official site don't even have this horse in the top 10 in the power rankings, yet there is no question this is a horse that has every bit of the ability to come out on top.

Trained by three-time Kentucky Derby winner Bob Baffert, this is a horse that certainly has the potential to make it happen in this year's race.

If Bodemeister comes out on top, it would be the fist time since 1882, when Apollo won this grand race, that the winner was one who didn't race as a two-year old.

Union Rags

Odds: 9/2

Winner of three of his last five races, Union Rags is expected to be a force to be reckoned with at this year's Kentucky Derby.

The team will look to bounce back from the last outing, as Union Rags finished just third at the Florida Derby in Gulfstream Park. Expect this horse to come out all the more ready in this race.

Creative Cause

Odds: 12/1

A major, under-the-radar selection, Creative Cause has the makings to be a force at this year's spectacle.

This is a horse that has won three races in its last seven, and continues to prove itself as a special racer.

Expect Creative Cause to come out as strong as any horse, and possibly take home the 2012 title.
