Kentucky Oaks 2012: Last Minute Predictions for This Year's Race

Ben ChodosJun 7, 2018

The biggest weekend in horse racing will kick off today at 5:45 ET with the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs.

The colts will take the track in due time, but first, the fillies get to have their fun.

Grace Hall is the morning favorite at 5-2 odds, but is followed closely by On Fire Baby and Broadway's Alibi, both a 4-1 bet to win.

After these three, there's a drop-off with Believe You Can, Jemima's Pearl and Amie's Dini all sitting at 10-1 odds.

Some of the world's leading jockeys will be steering these horses across the finish line.

Jockey Javier Castellano will be looking to win both races and has an excellent shot to do so. He will ride Grace Hall this afternoon and then take the reins for Gemologist, the only undefeated horse in the Kentucky Derby field.

On Fire Baby and Broadway's Alibi will be jockeyed by Joe Johnson and John Velazquez, respectively.

Johnson will not ride in the Derby, but Velazquez will try to win with Went the Day Well, who sits at 20-1 odds.

It's just as well that this is Johnson's only race this weekend, as he will have a difficult time in the Oaks. His horse, On Fire Baby, was unfortunate enough to draw the No. 1 post position, and Johnson will have to try and keep from getting trapped on the inside track.

On Fire Baby's unfavorable draw tips the scale in favor of Grace Hall and Broadway's Alibi.

Grace Hall, trained by Tony Dutrow, has won four of her six races and has never finished worse than second.

Trainer Todd Pletcher hopes that Broadway's Alibi can be his next filly to win a Triple Crown race, after Rags to Riches took the Belmont Stakes in 2007.

This looks more and more likely to happen, as the horse has won four consecutive races leading up to the big weekend at Churchill Downs.

Grace Hall and On Fire Baby will start right next to each other in the No. 1 and No. 2 posts. These two favorites will battle each other, while Broadway's Alibi bides her time.

In the end, Pletcher will have another big win on his resume, and Broadway's Alibi will take home the prize money.
