NBA Playoffs: Rajon Rondo Makes a Very Bold Statement

Eric HeMay 3, 2012

If this doesn't turn any heads in the Atlanta Hawks' organization, I don't know what will.

After being suspended for one game for bumping a referee in Game 1, Rondo was very relieved that his team won Game 2.

“The end result is all that matters,” Rondo told Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald. “If there had been a different result, it would have been very difficult. But since we won, it felt like we won the series already.”

Can we see that last sentence again?

"But since we won, it felt like we won the series already.”

Wow. A very bold statement, especially since the Hawks and Boston Celtics are only tied at 1-1 in their first-round playoff series.

Rondo's risky word choice only adds more drama to an already exciting series. Atlanta has not won a championship in over 50 years, while the Celtics are trying to squeeze out one more title from their aging veterans.

I don't know about you, but I cannot wait to see how the Atlanta Hawks respond to that comment in Game 3 on Friday—especially with Rondo back from his suspension.
