Kentucky Derby 2012 Odds: Underdogs Worth Taking a Chance On
As we prepare for the 2012 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on Saturday, it's smart to look at the underdogs who have a chance to take home the crown in addition to the favorites.
Over the last few years, favorites at the Derby haven't performed that well, so it's important to understand the underdogs who can make a surprise run toward first place.
Let's look at some underdogs worth focusing on ahead of Saturday's big race.
Liaison: 35/1
Liaison has raced seven times since September and finished first in three consecutive races from October through December.
This horse hasn't finished higher than fourth in its last three races, but since Bob Baffert is the trainer, you know that Liaison will be well prepared for the Derby.
Daddy Long Legs: 30/1
Daddy Long Legs comes into the Kentucky Derby with a lot of optimism. In his last five races, the horse has three first-place finishes and a fourth-place finish.
His dad also raced in the Kentucky Derby, but didn't have much success. If Daddy Long Legs can get off to a good start, he has the speed to make a surprise run toward the finish.
Sabercat: 35/1
Sabercat has been a busy horse over the last year. Since May of 2011, Sabercat has raced eight times, finishing first three times and third twice.
Sabercat has very good stamina and won't be bothered by a slow start. Expect this horse to be a contender on Saturday.
