Kentucky Derby Odds: Bodemeister and Best Horses to Win

Soven BeryJun 7, 2018

The 2012 edition of the legendary Kentucky Derby is quickly approaching and this year looks to be intriguing.

You don’t want to be that guy who is misinformed and bets on a random horse. You could look like a genius or you could look like an idiot.

That is the beauty of sports. It is unpredictable. But we try to predict it. I’m no different.

Here are the best bets to win the the Race for the Roses this weekend.

Current Derby Odds are from KentuckyDerby.info.

Gemologist

1 of 5

Official Odds: 6/1

Undefeated

In the sports world, that is a legendary word. It is a word that puts an athlete in a class of his own. It is a word that screams, “I’ll beat you.” It is a word that invokes fear in the enemy.

It is a word that describes Gemologist.

The colt is five-for-five since starting out his career in September of 2011. He is a proven winner that has won twice at Churchill Downs.

His inexperience may catch up to him, but the other horses won’t. Gemologist is only getting faster and is a good bet to win this famed race.

Union Rags

2 of 5

Official Odds: 9/2

Union Rags is still a favorite to win this, despite finishing third in the Florida Derby on March 31. He quickly fell from many Kentucky Derby contenders lists after that finish, but don’t fear. Union Rags can still make a chase at the win.

He has impressed, so far, in Louisville and he is a safe bet. He is a powerful horse that deserves to have the roses placed upon him.

He is good enough to win the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby, but it is now or never for Union Rags.

Dullahan

3 of 5

Official Odds: 8/1

I guess it runs in the family.

Dullahan’s brother, Mine that Bird, won the Kentucky Derby back in 2009, and now he has a shot at the roses. Peyton already won at Churchill Downs and now Eli gets his turn. We know how this metaphor turned out in football, but what will happen in horse racing?

Dullahan may not be the favorite, but he is still a viable contender and is a bit underrated, just like the younger Manning brother. The horse also never starts out with the lead but is wonderful in the clutch and waits until late to make his presence heard.

That sounds just like Eli.

The colt has great closing speed and could take home the roses.

Bodemeister

4 of 5

Official Odds: 4/1

Ladies and gentleman, this is your 2012 Kentucky Derby favorite.

The odds are in his favor, and Bodemeister is fast and powerful to win it all. Once he gets a slight lead, the horse will be able to turn the jets on and race away from the competition.

He is a major contender who completely dominated in the Arkansas Derby earlier this season.

Keep your eyes on Bodemeister, if you can.
