Jordan Hill: Lakers Forward Turns Himself In on Assault Charges

Eric BallMay 2, 2012

It looks like the troubles of Los Angeles Lakers power forward Jordan Hill are going to be following him around for a while.

One of the newest additions to the Lakers turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday after being charged with allegedly choking his girlfriend following an argument in February, according to TMZ.

The altercation occurred when Hill was residing in Houston, where he was still a member of the Houston Rockets.  According to the report, a judge did impose a protective order, meaning Hill isn’t allowed to contact or be in the presence of his ex.

The good news for Lakers fans is that there haven't been any travel restrictions placed upon him, meaning he’s cleared to fly to Denver for Games 3 and 4 of the Lakers' first-round series against the Nuggets.

After being buried on the bench at the beginning of his Lakers tenure, Hill has suddenly emerged as a key component to the team in a reserve role. In two playoff wins, he has averaged eight points and 10 rebounds in 22.5 minutes per game. His offensive rebounding has really stood out. After registering four in Game 1, he topped that effort with five on Tuesday night.

Immediately following that performance, he must have taken the red-eye from L.A. to Houston to ensure he made it to court on time this morning.

His next court appearance is scheduled for June 8, right around the time the Western Conference Finals will be wrapping up. Considering court appearances are never scheduled for after dark, it is highly unlikely he’ll miss any time in the postseason due to his legal woes.
