Kentucky Oaks 2012: Horses with Best Shot to Upset Grace Hall
The Kentucky Oaks may play second-fiddle to the Kentucky Derby, but there's no question the historic race still provides plenty of theatrics.
It will be no different this year as Grace Hall, the 5-2 morning-line favorite, consensus favorite, will be challenged by an absolutely stacked field.
Here's a closer look at what horses are ready to challenge her.
On Fire Baby (4-1)
This three-year-old Filly will be racing out of the No. 1 post, and that can sometimes be a disadvantage, but there's no questioning her talent.
On Fire Baby has won three of her last four races, and that includes two at Grade 2.
What's more, she's well prepared for distance races like the Kentucky Oaks. Her last victory came in the 1 1/16-mile Grade 3 Honeybee.
Throw in her two wins already at Churchill, and this speedy filly has a major edge over most of the competition already.
Eden's Moon (12-1)
Eden's Moon had an impressive month of March, and is coming into this race with plenty of momentum.
At Las Virgenes (Grade 1), she took home the victory after completing the mile-long distance in 1:35.27.
Her last race, a third-place finish at Santa Anita Oaks, was a little more disappointing, but that was also a Grade 1 race.
Two Grade 1 races in the last month is a lot more than most of the other horses in this field have gone through, and that will work as an advantage for Eden's Moon.
Furthermore, she has been putting in some impressive times during training. Don't be surprised if she wins this thing.
Summer Applause (15-1)
Summer Applause has drawn the No. 3 post position, and the 15-1 morning-line odds makes this filly a common underdog pick.
I tend to agree.
In her last three races, she's finished second-first-second. What's more, veteran jockey Robby Albarado will be riding her, and it's hard to bet against him.
Don't forget about Summer Applause when filling out your trifecta.
