Tom EdringtonJun 7, 2018

Buried deep my archives is this story about Eric LeGrand, the Rutgers football player who was paralyzed on October 16, 2010 during his team's game against Army in Giants Stadium.

Read it, please.

Now you'll understand what a great day this is at One Buccaneer Place, what a great thing the Bucs and coach Greg Schiano have done, and it will give you some insight as to the type of person Schiano is.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers added another undrafted free agent on Wednesday. He cannot run, he cannot walk, yet. He's confined to a wheel chair.

He will never play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but deep down inside, you have to pull for LeGrand as much as you've ever pulled for anyone in your life.

This kid's a gamer, he's all heart, all soul, all want-to. He's everything that everyone on this Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster should strive to be. For that matter, we can all take a page from the LeGrand book of "want to." We should all have his spirit, his desire. Our lives would be better for it.

LeGrand continued to fight his way back from the paralysis that disabled that big body of his. But it did not disable his spirit, it did not disable his desire.

Here's a young man who was told he'd never get off the ventilator that enabled him to breathe. He left that machine behind five weeks ago.

LeGrand continues to defy the odds against him.

They say he won't walk again.

Eric believes he will.

Don't bet against him.
