Manny Pacquiao: Lacking Fighting Shape Shouldn't Worry Pac-Man's Camp

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

With a little over a month to go before Manny Pacquiao fights Timothy Bradley Jr., he isn't in top physical form. But that won't change the fact that Pacquiao will dominate Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand.

Freddie Roach admitted on Tuesday at Shape Up gym in Baguio City that Pacquiao still had some work to do and wasn't as sharp as he would like him to be. That doesn't mean that Roach is particularly worried, though.

Roach said on Tuesday, via GMA News: "I don't expect him to be ready for the fight yet. Not even close. We still have a long way to go, but I'm happy we have all the time."

After Pacquiao's last two fights against Shane Mosley and Juan Manuel Marquez, it's easy to say that Pacquiao is losing it, that he's declining and is primed for an upset. But the fact of the matter is, he's still one of the top two boxers in the world. He still has great speed and power, elusiveness and a warrior's mentality. He's still one of the best of this generation.

That's why you can't look too deep into Pacquiao's less-than-stellar form, especially when he still has time to be ready. Even if he showed up at the MGM Grand and wasn't in peak shape, he would still dominate Bradley. Bradley may be the current WBO light welterweight champion, but Pacquiao is an eight-division world champion who has gone toe-to-toe with some of the best in the world and made them look silly.

Pacquiao is not rapidly declining, folks. He didn't dominate against Mosley, and he won a squeaker against Marquez, but he still has the ability to be dominate. Is he the best in the world right now? Perhaps not. But he's certainly much better than Bradley.

No need to be worried about Pacquiao's fighting shape right now. He will show up in shape on June 9, then show why he still has plenty left in the tank.
