NFL Draft 2012 Results: Biggest Impact Picks of Entire Draft

Wes ODonnellMay 1, 2012

Rookies aren't guaranteed to make an impact in the NFL, but more than a few players from every draft class find their way onto the field and immediately make a difference.

For some it takes more than a few years, but others, whether it be because of pure talent or team need, make their presence felt in their rookie campaigns.

Here's a look at some of the biggest immediate impact picks of this year's draft.

Robert Griffin III, QB, Redskins (First Round)

This is simple: The Redskins needed themselves a quarterback, and they mortgaged their future to move up for RGIII. He'll be the starter in Washington from Day 1 and, for better or worse, will have a huge impact on their season.

David DeCastro, OG and Mike Adams, OT, Steelers (First and Second Rounds)

The Steelers couldn't possibly be happier with the value they got in Rounds 1 and 2.

DeCastro is a plug-and-play starter, and Adams has the potential to be an elite bookend in this league. He has some baggage, but he could start immediately this season, giving Ben Roethlisberger a young, talented line to play behind for years to come—including 2012.

Dont'a Hightower, LB, Patriots (First Round)

New England landed a premier pass rush talent with its first first-round pick, but it is Hightower who will immediately take to the field and star for Bill Belichick.

He's a natural leader with an impressive combination of size and athleticism for the position. He, along with Jerod Mayo and Brandon Spikes, give Belichick exactly the type of linebacking unit he wants.

Jonathan Martin, OT, Dolphins (Second Round)

The former Stanford left tackle slid out of the first round, but he fell to a team in need of a right tackle, and that is where he fits best in the NFL.

He's a bit of finesse player and still has to get stronger, but the Dolphins cannot be upset about playing him opposite Jake Long for the next 10 years, and that partnership should start immediately.

Lavonte David, OLB, Buccaneers (Second Round)

David may not be a starter for every defense, but he's an instant starter in Tampa Bay's defense.

He has an impressive combination of speed and playmaking skills and will star on the weakside for quite a while.

Get used to him making plays for Greg Schiano.
