Paul Silas Fired: Charlotte Bobcats Part Ways with Coach After Historic Season

Gabe ZaldivarJun 2, 2018

The Charlotte Bobcats made history this season, but it's the kind that you never want your franchise to be involved with. Their ineptitude has reportedly cost head coach Paul Silas his job.

NBA.com reports Silas was asked not to return to his post as head coach of the Charlotte Bobcats. The report comes by way of an announcement from Bobcats President of Basketball Operations Rod Higgins:

"

I would like to personally thank Paul for everything he has done for this team under some pretty unique circumstances. His basketball experience as a coach and a player speak for themselves. We have been fortunate to have someone of his character associated with this franchise and we hope he will continue to be a valuable resource to us in the future.

That uncertain future will be immediately addressed, as reported by USA Today's Jeff Zillgitt via Twitter:

"

Bobcats say a search for Silas' successor will begin immediately.

There is hardly any surprise that jobs would be at stake after arguably the worst season in NBA history. The Bobcats just finished the season with a 7-59 record, good for a .106 winning percentage, the worst ever in league history.

This included finishing up their campaign of futility with a 23-game losing streak.

Silas wasn't given much of a chance, but it was clear that the coach who enjoyed his one full year as the head coach of the Bobcats wasn't the right man for the job.

He was 25-29 as the interim coach last season and finished with an overall record of 32-88, hardly invoking confidence in fans or the front office.

This franchise is in dire need of more than a head coach, which makes the search for the next man with the clipboard all the more daunting.

Frustration washed over the locker room, making it clear that a new direction was paramount. It's hard to imagine one man turning around a franchise that is in need of a major overhaul.
