WWE Extreme Rules 2012 Results: Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk Expected to Continue

Drake OzApr 30, 2012

Extreme Rules was one hell of a pay-per-view, and the best match of the night might very well have been CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho in a Chicago Street Fight for the WWE Championship.

It was a fantastic brawl between two of the WWE’s top stars that was entertaining for every single one of the 26 minutes that it took up.

When the match ended and Punk emerged victorious, that gave Punk the 2-0 advantage in this series and sure looked like the blow-off bout to this great rivalry.

But was it? Let’s find out.

"

Word at last night's WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view was that the feud between CM Punk and Chris Jericho is not over.

"

Really? How can this feud possibly continue?

While I do admit that I’m not sure anything Jericho does after his feud with Punk is going to matter as much as this rivalry has, I just can’t think of a logical way to make this feud continue.

I’ve loved the wrestling we’ve gotten from these two, but Punk beat Jericho clean in a standard wrestling match at WrestleMania and now he’s beaten Jericho in a great gimmick match that had all the makings of a blow-off match.

I think it would make sense for this feud to continue if the WWE Championship weren’t involved, but how does two straight pay-per-view losses warrant yet another title shot for Jericho?

Unless Jericho wins some sort of match to become the No. 1 contender for the WWE title again, I don’t think that he should get another chance to become the WWE Champion.

I mean, even if he eventually beats Punk to win the title, how big of an accomplishment will it be anyway?

It will have taken him four chances to do so.

Perhaps it’s better for everyone—Punk and Jericho, included—if we just move on to something else.
