Mayweather vs Cotto Odds: Early Betting Lines on Boxing's Superfight

Alex KayJun 2, 2018

The much-anticipated “Ring Kings” battle between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Miguel Cotto is taking place Saturday, May 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Bettors are already getting their picks in for some early lines being offered by the casinos.

Let’s take a look at the two bets you can make right now courtesy of Bovada.lv.

Money Line

Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. -700

Miguel “Junito” Cotto +450

The smart and safe play here is Mayweather -700. "Money" is just too good and has never lost in his career. It’s unlikely he will suffer his first defeat in the ring against Cotto — a tough opponent but one that has lost to Manny Pacquiao (considered Floyd’s equal) and Antonio Margarito (an inferior fighter with a 38-8 career record).

This bet requires a bit of an investment to return a respectable profit, but it’s a much surer thing than taking Cotto +450 and praying for a miracle.

Over 9 ½ rounds -250

Under 9 ½ rounds +170

Mayweather does not often knock his opponents out and many of his fights go the distance.

Besides his last bout against Victor Ortiz—in which he put the challenger down in the fourth round—Floyd had not KO’d anyone before the ninth round since a TKO against Sharmba Mitchell in November of 2005.

That means the smart money is on the over here.

Cotto isn’t a fighter that will take a lot of punches and once Mayweather gets a good shot in, it is likely he’ll go into the defensive and retreat.

Smartest Play

If you are looking to make some decent profit at a relatively low risk, parlaying Floyd Mayweather’s money line with Over 9 ½ rounds will net 60 dollars for every 100 risked.

That is much better than the individual payouts for each bet and both should hit come May 5.
