2012 NFL Draft: Teams That Must Make Moves in Round 2
The 2012 NFL Draft's first round started with a bang on Thursday night. Many teams addressed at least one need, but others left something to be desired.
These teams must capitalize on their opportunities in Round 2.
The Jets decided on Quinton Coples in Round 1. Coples will be a bust, but that is a separate issue.
The Jets may have addressed their pass-rushing needs, but they need to grab another playmaker on offense. Stephen Hill and Alshon Jeffery are both on the board, but will not last until the Jets' No. 47 pick.
New York's offense is average at best. Mike Tannenbaum would be smart to make an aggressive move up the Round 2 draft board, move up, select an elite target and give Mark Sanchez something to work with.
Jets fans may be happy with their current position, but moving up to take Jeffery or Hill would make them even happier.
The Bengals used their two first-round selections wisely. Dre Kirkpatrick and Kevin Zeitler are both plug-and-play additions to the Cincy fold.
Despite their Round 1 picks the Bengals have more work to do. They are very close to taking the next step as an organization and an elite running back would speed up that process.
Lamar Miller is going to be a very good NFL running back. The Bengal front office should be doing everything they can to land Miller's impressive abilities.
The AFC North is a very tough division. A consistent ground attack is necessary to playing with the likes of Baltimore and Pittsburgh. These teams play great run defense and have solid ball-carriers of their own.
The Bengals are an emerging team in most areas. Adding Miller would give Andy Dalton another weapon to work with.
The Texans need a bold move in Round 2. Whitney Mercilus was a risky first-round selection and does not address Houston's most dire need.
Stephen Hill or Alshon Jeffery would look nice in a Texans jersey. Andre Johnson is one of the NFL's best receivers, but he needs help.
The Texans would need to be very aggressive here. They have the 26th pick of the second round, and would probably need to move into at least the first ten picks of the day.
An aggressive move is well worth it in this situation. As good as Johnson is, Jacoby Jones is not a legitimate No. 2 receiver.
The Texans are going to contend for an AFC title in 2012. Grabbing a target with Jeffery or Hill's superb athleticism would make their title dreams even more realistic.
