WWE Extreme Rules 2012 Predictions: Brock Lesnar Won't Fight John Cena

Donald WoodApr 27, 2012

While all the WWE fans out there want to see an epic brawl between John Cena and Brock Lesnar at Extreme Rules, they will be sadly disappointed by the lack of action.

That’s because the match won’t happen—not as planned, at least.

With John Laurinaitis being Lesnar’s puppet, there's no question that it won’t be a simple Extreme Rules match on Sunday.

There has to be a plot twist.

The WWE has to stack the odds against John Cena to make him seem like the underdog again, or at least try to.

The easiest way to prove the power that the duo of Lesnar and Jonny Ace has would be changing the stipulation of this match to a gauntlet format.

With the trio of Laurinaitis' goons such as Otunga, Mark Henry and Drew McIntyre softening up Cena, the WWE can make Lesnar destroy Cena and pass it off as acceptable.

Even if it does come to blows, the only way the WWE can end this match will be with Lesnar squashing Cena. They have to continue to build Brock as a monster for his run towards WrestleMania 29, so allowing him to look anything other than a war machine is the WWE shooting themselves in the foot.

If the WWE wants to save this match completely, they could have Lord Tensai as Cena’s final opponent in the gauntlet matches and have Cena lose because of interference from Lesnar.

With no actual battle happening, the WWE could have this headline match for another PPV down the road.

Further build the suspense and drama.

To be honest, I’d rather wait on this match. The back story is nothing, and at least another month of build would create a story we could rally behind.
