NFL Draft Order 2012: Teams That Must Trade Up to Fill Major Need

After the first two picks of the 2012 NFL draft, there is nothing but chaos. Some teams need to take control of their own destiny and move up for the player they want.

The Washington Redskins took that strategy long before the draft started by acquiring the No. 2 overall pick. The team needed a quarterback and is now in position to take one of the best prospects in the past few years.

Tonight, these other franchises must make similar moves in order to fill a position they desperately need.

Buffalo Bills

The Minnesota Vikings have been trying to trade out of the No. 3 spot for anyone who wants Ryan Tannehill or Trent Richardson, but lineman Matt Kalil is also worth making a move for.

Buffalo has reported interest in the USC offensive tackle, and is willing to make a trade to get him.

This makes sense, considering the team's need for a left tackle, as well as the apparent drop off in talent at the position after he's taken.

Instead of reaching for a second-tier talent, the Bills need to move up to get their man.

Philadelphia Eagles

Despite attempting to fill holes through free agency, the Eagles still have a big gap in the middle of their defense.

Ideally, Philadelphia would be able to draft linebacker Luke Kuechly or one of the top defensive tackles to take on double teams. However, these men will likely not be available with the No. 15 pick.

The Eagles are close to being a contender, but the window is closing soon.

It is important to pick up these key pieces now rather than hoping later picks turn out to be diamonds in the rough. 

Green Bay Packers

Despite a 15-1 regular-season record, the Packers still need to improve on what was a dreadful defense a year ago.

The team's biggest need is for an outside linebacker who can create a pass rush. This would take less pressure off the secondary and keep Clay Matthews away from double-teams.

While there are a few good players who could be available with Green Bay's No. 28 pick, it would be more beneficial to trade up and get an impact player.

The Packers could be one player away from another Super Bowl, so it would make sense to risk later picks in order to get someone like Melvin Ingram or Courtney Upshaw earlier in the draft.

A player of this caliber could turn the defense from laughable to scary.
