NFL Draft Rumors: Jets Shouldn't Sacrifice Team to Trade Up for Trent Richardson
There is no longer any question about it: the New York Jets are looking to make the mistake of trading up in order to pick Trent Richardson, the top running back in the 2012 NFL draft.
ESPN New York's Rich Cimini broke the news via twitter:
"At NFL event today, Trent Richardson said #Jets called him Sunday to verify correct contact info just in case they trade up for him. Hmm.
"
For one of the worst running games in the NFL, the addition of Richardson would be a welcomed one for the Jets. Richardson is one of most talented players in the entire draft, and by far the best running back.
The trade would most likely be with the Minnesota Vikings for their third-overall pick, considering there's a ton of speculation that the Cleveland Browns are favorites to snatch him up at No. 4.
However, the Jets would have to trade a significant amount of draft picks, their No. 16 included, in order to get their hands on the former Alabama running back. That type of trade could be costly to the Jets.
With holes to fill on the offensive line and defensively as well, New York would be doing a disservice to themselves by getting rid of most of their valuable picks for one player.
This team could desperately use a pass-rusher to put some fear into opposing offenses once again. Not to mention, at the very least, quarterback Mark Sanchez could use some extra help after getting his rear handed to him all last season.
As badly as the Jets need a running game, that was already supposedly solved by the addition of Tim Tebow. Adding Richardson would be ignoring the rest of the team's needs just to once again grab the back page.
