Justin Blackmon: Ranking the Teams Who Need Stud WR the Most
Justin Blackmon will captivate fans in the NFL next season, just like he did with Oklahoma State for the last few years, and there are several teams in dire need of his impressive skill set.
Blackmon has good hands, but his strength is what really makes him special. He's able to have lots of success against small defensive backs with his size and his ability to run his routes to perfection because of his lateral quickness.
His speed isn't great, but his other fundamental skills are so strong that it's quite unlikely that he won't have success as a rookie.
He's an NFL-ready receiver who will be able to step into an offense and play the role of a No. 1 receiver.
Let's look at the teams most in need of this stud receiver prospect.
St. Louis Rams
The Rams traded down in the draft to pick No. 6 after acquiring multiple first-round picks from the Washington Redskins in exchange for the second overall selection.
St. Louis' biggest need on offense is a talented wide receiver who can be a No. 1 guy after the free agent departure of Brandon Lloyd.
Young quarterback Sam Bradford needs a reliable target who can make plays in the passing game because you can't ask star running back Steven Jackson to be that guy on a consistent basis.
The Rams were 30th in passing yards per game last season, so it's clear that the team needs another weapon for Bradford.
If Blackmon is still available at pick No. 6, I would be surprised if the Rams pass on him.
The Browns have so many needs on offense, including wide receiver, quarterback and running back. Those are some serious needs, but as far as running back and quarterback are concerned, there isn't a player worth taking at those positions in the top five.
Alabama star Trent Richardson is a special player, but there is a lot of risks involved in taking running backs high in the first round.
Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill is another good prospect, but his true value is a late first-rounder. Tannehill doesn't have the throwing accuracy needed to dominate at the pro level.
With the No. 4 pick in this draft, the Browns should get quarterback Colt McCoy a true No. 1 receiver in Blackmon.
McCoy is a talented young player who the Browns cannot give up on yet. It would be unfair to get rid of him before seeing how well he can perform with good talent around him.
Blackmon would really improve the Browns' passing game, which was ranked 24th last year.
The Jaguars have no legitimate No. 1 receivers in their passing game, which means they must rely on star running back Maurice Jones-Drew way too much.
Blackmon would be a phenomenal addition to the league's worst passing attack last season. Young quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who the team used with its first-round pick last year, desperately needs a top receiver.
Jacksonville has a good and improving defense, so to become a playoff contender in a competitive AFC South division, the team needs to draft a game-changing offensive playmaker with their No. 7 overall pick.
The only problem is that Blackmon might not be available when Jacksonville is on the clock at pick No. 7.
