2012 NFL Mock Draft: Trent Richardson and Most Likely Rookie Pro Bowlers
Soon, the Indianapolis Colts will be on the clock, picking from a class filled with superstars. Here are the most likely breakout players from the 2012 NFL draft.
We all realize that the draft is top-loaded with talent, but some prospects will benefit from a far better situation than others in their new teams.
Here we have an NFL mock draft all ready for later this week and have highlighted the lucky few whose talents will meet the need of their teams.
Next stop is the Pro Bowl.
1. Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
There will be plenty of Pro Bowls in Luck's future, but not next year, and not with that offense.
2. Washington Redskins (via STL): Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
RG3 may surprise some people with a Redskins team that will prove to be an easier transition than what Luck has to go through, but I still don't see a Pro Bowl, yet.
3. Minnesota Vikings: Matt Kalil, OT, USC
The Vikings may go with a player they figure plays more of a "game-changing" position, but I say Kalil is the safe bet.
4. Cleveland Browns: Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
I really hope the Browns skirt the need to draft a quarterback, forcing a huge reach for Ryan Tannehill, because Richardson would be a great fit in Cleveland.
The Browns would have an immediate-impact player who is dynamic and explosive off the line. Richardson also has the versatility to be a target in the backfield.
This is the first play of the class to make a claim at superstar status.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU
The Bucs need a player like Claiborne, making him a candidate to play a significant amount next season.
At that point, we will see how his strength and agility can affect receivers, and I am confident he will make a huge difference next season.
6. St. Louis Rams (via WA): Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State
Some are down on Blackmon for being great but not elite, but I say he is exactly what this team needs to finally give Sam Bradford a real shot to succeed.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Melvin Ingram, DE/OLB, South Carolina
Ingram is a joy to watch for the simple fact that he gives it his all in every single play. There is hardly a more tenacious athlete in the top of the draft.
8. Miami Dolphins: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M
The Dolphins have holes all around the roster, so one pick will not make or break their team. It may be time to make a huge reach if they think Tannehill is worth the gamble.
9. Carolina Panthers: Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State
I am convinced that Cox is ready to play in a game tomorrow, and he will only get better as he learns the ins and outs of the pro game.
Give him a few games, and he will show how amazing he can be at getting to the quarterback and plugging holes.
10. Buffalo Bills: Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford
The Bills could use some dynamic weapons on both sides of the ball, but I see a player like Martin giving them the biggest help.
11. Kansas City Chiefs: Luke Kuechly, ILB, Boston College
The Chiefs get one of the most solid players regardless of position. Kuechly has a knack for getting to the ball and making the necessary play.
12. Seattle Seahawks: Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina
There remain questions about his motor, but nobody will deny his talent and promise.
13. Arizona Cardinals: Cordy Glenn, G/T, Georgia
It may be a reach to take a guard at this point in the draft, but the Cardinals need a player like Glenn. The prospect is fast for his size and ready to lock down the line now.
14. Dallas Cowboys: Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis
We all know about his 44 reps with 225 pounds and 40-yard dash time of 4.98 seconds, but I am not ready to guarantee his stardom.
Poe is the most intriguing prospect who needs to prove he is more than just a combine wonder.
15. Philadelphia Eagles: Mark Barron, S, Alabama
Philadelphia would love to get Mark Barron, a player who would finally give them consistency at safety, but this future star may be gone by now.
16. New York Jets: Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama
Despite a lackluster combine, I still like Upshaw as a guy who can get around the edges and force the issue in the pocket.
17. Cincinnati Bengals (via OAK): Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame
The Bengals get a solid vertical threat who can really give Andy Dalton a chance to succeed.
18. San Diego Chargers: Whitney Mercilus, DE/OLB, Illinois
I love his tenacity and the ability he showed last season in bringing his game to another level. The sky is truly the limit.
19. Chicago Bears: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa
Reiff would be a great value at this point in the draft. The Bears need help on the line once again, and the Iowa standout is the best left on the board.
20. Tennessee Titans: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama
The Titans need help at corner, and Kirkpatrick is a physical specimen who isn't afraid to get after it from the point of contact. I still say he is underrated.
21. Cincinnati Bengals: Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina
We go back-to-back corners, and Gilmore would be a great find for the Bengals, giving them two dynamic weapons in the first round.
22. Cleveland Browns (via ATL): Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor
The Browns may have issues with their quarterback situation, but adding a player like Wright could solve a great deal.
23. Detroit Lions: David DeCastro, G, Stanford
It's all about keeping Matthew Stafford safe and upright all season long.
24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Dont'a Hightower, ILB, Alabama
The Steelers could go a number of ways, but I would love to see how Hightower matures on this team.
25. Denver Broncos: Nick Perry, DE, USC
With Perry, the Broncos would be well on their way to building the best pass rush in the league.
26. Houston Texans: Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina
I am sold on Jeffery being a star in the league, but I like him even more on the other side of Andre Johnson.
27. New England Patriots (via NO): Michael Brockers, DT, LSU
There are questions about him after a poor combine, but he has tremendous value at this point in the draft, and he comes with a proven ability to breach the line.
28. Green Bay Packers: Andre Branch, DE/OLB, Clemson
He has the size teams like and a great ability to control his frame and switch directions.
29. Baltimore Ravens: Harrison Smith, S, Notre Dame
He is as versatile as they come and a superstar of the combine.
30. San Francisco 49ers: Jayron Hosley, CB, Virginia Tech
The 49ers have it all but could use depth in the secondary. The rich defensively get that much richer after the first round.
31. New England Patriots: Rueben Randle, WR, LSU
I am sold on him after his 53 receptions for 917 yards and eight touchdowns in his senior season. This is a player that may be the sleeper of the first round.
32. New York Giants: Amini Silatolu, G, Midwestern State (Texas)
I would like to see assurances made on the offensive line because it was a little dicey out there at times last year.
