WWE SmackDown 4/20: Ranking the Moments
SmackDown was a very regular show. I guess I think that because I'm comparing it to Monday Night Raw, which was a far better show.
Granted, Friday had some good moments, and, sadly, some very off ones, too.
I'm giving the Blue Brand a B-.
Anyways, since there were a lot of moments, I'm going to rank them from worst to best.
So let's get started.
11. The 'Crowd'
1 of 12Remember that great Miami crowd from some weeks ago? They helped Daniel Bryan get a new t-shirt and kind of saved his spot at the main event, when rumors came out stating that because of the great response to Bryan, he got his title rematch against Sheamus. I even ranked Miami as the best part of the night after 'Mania.
Well, this is somewhat the opposite.
In my opinion, Smackdown is really the B show, thanks in large part to the crowd reaction being edited. It's annoying.
Last night, when Daniel Bryan entered to make his promo, you could see hundreds of fans mimicking the "YES! YES! YES!" sign, but you couldn't really hear it. Also, you could hear Khali getting cheered to, when the crowd was obviously not doing so.
You know the crowd reaction is fake when you hear women screaming in a cheer. Just see the video!
I will try to not mention this in next week's edition, but I just had to talk about this sooner or later.
10. Teddy Long Segments
2 of 12I was really expecting to see Teddy leave the WWE scene after WrestleMania, but then Johnny hires him, and now he's wearing a Queen's guard outfit...wait, what?
Seriously! He had to stay silent and all that!
He was embarrassed in front of Aksana and her new boyfriend, Antonio, who, by the way, is going to be a superstar. He also had a funny moment with William Regal, who got a hometown pop.
I guess Teddy will be put in this torture until he wants his GM job back, or quits.
9. Brodus vs. Hunico
3 of 12Why would you go from having an actual match against Ziggler and Swagger two weeks ago to having another squash?
When Brodus teamed up with Santino on Raw a few weeks ago, I was psyched to think that Clay would begin to really have competition. But this Friday he faced the company's new jobber, Hunico (which is sad).
Also, The Funkasaurus was accompanied by Hornswoggle. Oh joy.
You just need to know that Hornswoggle can't dance. But to this segment's credit, it had a funny moment when the talking leprechaun did the splits and had a hard time getting up. That got a chuckle out of me.
8. Damien Sandow
4 of 12Man, is this guy cool, or what?
His promos are great. This week, he talked about ignorance. And I love it when he finishes with "Your welcome."
He reminds me of Alberto Del Rio...but he isn't Mexican.
I can't wait for this guy to debut.
7. Orton vs. Kane in Falls Count Anywhere
5 of 12Good interview to Randy. He stated that his father is going to be fine, but that Kane won't be.
A nice way to reveal the match stipulation for Extreme Rules.
These two have performed very well with each other, and I don't doubt that this match will be great.
And the result? Well, I'd like to see the Big Red Monster win, and finish strong, so he can move to bigger and better things. But I think the most obvious choice is Orton picking up the win.
6. Ryback Squash
6 of 12This squash got this high thanks to the jobber, Danny Merman, and just by remembering his name it shows a good sign.
I mean it! I was just laughing it up when he said that the match was dedicated to his mum. But sadly, Ryback didn't care, and he squashed him like a bug. Sorry, Mommy!
Before the match, Heath Slater and Drew McIntyre we're looking on, like in past weeks with other superstars.
But the icing on the cake to this match had to be the commentary. Booker is just hilarious.
Anyways, Ryback is impressive, but for some reason, he isn't getting over with the fans. I think he should move on to WWE jobbers instead of unknown talent.
5. Big Show vs. Del Rio
7 of 12We have seen these guys fight each other too much already, but I guess this match happened to hit two birds with one stone: get Alberto a win so he can gain momentum before going against Sheamus (or Daniel Bryan, which I hope for but really doubt), and have Cody Rhodes finally getting some revenge against Show.
The match itself was fine. Both men looked strong, especially Del Rio; he took Show down lots of times, and in a WWE sense, that's power.
In the end, after Ricardo distracted the referee, Cody appeared and hit the Disaster Kick on the giant, and Del Rio got the pin.
Afterwards, Rhodes delivered several kicks to the big man, but before Show could retaliate, the Dashing One ran away.
At least they gave Cody a little bit of momentum for their obvious match for the Intercontinental Championship.
4. 6-Man Tag Team Match
8 of 12The main event felt kind of boring to me. I mean, the match got its proper time to be unfolded, but it seemed more of the same.
The only person I found interesting was Daniel Bryan. He acts his part as a heel and a coward perfectly.
And thanks to Cody for taking out Khali before the match, because it would have gone even lower in my book.
In the end, the faces hit their finishers on Mark Henry to end the match.
3. The Usos vs. Titus O'Neil and Darren Young
9 of 12This was a good tag team match.
I've never seen Titus and Darren tag team before, since I really don't pay much attention to NXT, but these guys seem to be promising. I was really entertained by this match.
Granted, the only downside that they're victory was at the cost of the Usos, who, in my opinion, apart from Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel (who's injured), should be the Tag Team Champions.
I also liked the finisher the NXT team used.
I hope this means better things to come for the tag division.
2. AJ Snaps
10 of 12After a little talk with Daniel Bryan, AJ stayed in the ring to await her opponent, Natalya, who by the way, I don't know if she's heel or face, since she tagged with the Great Khali and Alicia Fox a few weeks ago.
Anyways, AJ stayed motionless, until Nattie tried to console her, only to get a slap as a response, and a beatdown to the corner.
So I guess, finally, AJ is going to turn heel, or she's going to be a crazy face. I like it!
If she moves on from the whole Daniel Bryan thing, it might be good for both of them. Plus, AJ is cooler this way.
1. Daniel "YES! YES! YES!" Bryan
11 of 12Daniel Bryan is on fire right now!
Watch the video, which proves my point from earlier. The crowd is shown cheering and chanting "YES! YES! YES!", but you can't hear it. It comes off as generic crowd reaction, mixed with a few boos, when it looks like cheers. This really has to stop.
Anyways, the promo Bryan cut was great. He mentioned Sheamus taking the cowardly way out at 'Mania, when he waited for Bryan to turn around and finish him (which is actually kind of true). He says he won't get distracted at Extreme Rules.
He's going to return to Chicago, the city where he began his rise and won the Money in the Bank briefcase, and he plans to shock the world once again. He'll accomplish that by doing what he does best, wrestle. He answered three questions he asked himself with "YES!", and the crowd helped answer.
AJ then made her appearance. Daniel thought she was there to distract him, but the ring is the only place they can talk about they're problems. However, Bryan said he doesn't have any problems anymore.
AJ wished Bryan good luck, but Daniel said he wished she hadn't come out, wished he never met her and finishes by wishing she was never born. After that, he laughed and said that he would never take AJ back.
That was amazing. Not only did he mention what he'll do in Chicago, but he also got AJ to snap out of all the love stuff.
Daniel is a great heel. I just wish there was actually a chance of him beating Sheamus at Chicago. But we do know that the fans on April 29th will be chanting "YES! YES! YES!"
Thanks for Reading!
12 of 12I will try and be more on time with these articles, and will try to report what happens tomorrow night, so please be sure to keep an eye on me!
I leave you with some great moments I still like to see.
Please comment on what you think I can do better! It's really appreciated!
