Real Madrid Playmaker Is Manchester United's Top Summer Target

Dusan LucicApr 20, 2012

Sir Alex Ferguson has turned his attention to Mesut Ozil and is keen on signing him in the next summer transfer window, as reported by Chris Smith of Caughtoffside.com.

Manchester United have already tried to sign the German playmaker in 2010, but the creative midfielder opted for the Spanish side Real Madrid.

Mesut Ozil was one of the stand-out performers of the 2010 World Cup, and no surprise—the greatest clubs soon came calling.

The young German joined Real Madrid for a fee thought to be in the region of £12.5 million, but his price has steeply risen in the last couple of years.

Since arriving to Madrid, Ozil enjoyed two impressive season campaigns, but Los Blancos already have too many players on the wage list.

Although he is one of the greatest playmakers in the modern game, his big game ineffectiveness and inconsistency remain a huge weakness. Nevertheless, Ozil recorded four goals and 17 assists in this season.

Sir Alex could be reluctant to sign Ozil, as United have to pay at least £30 million to sign him.

However, yet another league title could give Sir Alex more spending power.

United have had a lot of problems with their midfield in the last couple of seasons and Mesut Ozil could be the man to put an end to them.

Can Sir Alex lure Ozil to United? One thing is certain—if there's a man in the world who can persuade Ozil to join his club, that man is probably Sir Alex Ferguson.
