Donald Driver on 'Dancing with the Stars': WR Shows He's Worth Rooting for
Sports fans who also happen to watch Dancing with the Stars (it's OK, you can admit it) have a natural rooting interest in Donald Driver, wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers. As a sports fan, it's your duty to pull for the people who come from the world you love.
I'm pretty sure it's written in stone somewhere.
Plus, it doesn't hurt that Driver has some serious moves on the dance floor, or that he has a gregarious, colorful personality that makes him a lot of fun on the show.
You could root for Driver based on all of those things. But he's also worth rooting for as a person.
He's a devoted family man, for one. He's written three children's books. And as he told Cameron Mathison of Good Morning America, he made it through a tough childhood (via Suzan Clark of ABC News):
"His books center on a character named “Quickie”—the nickname Driver’s mother gave him when he was a child because when she tried to spank him, she had to work hard to catch him.
Driver opened up to Mathison about his childhood.
“Well, I mean, I grew up homeless, you know, lived in and out of U-Haul trucks and, you know, apartment houses, friends. You know, when Mom’s trying to raise five kids, it’s very hard. But, you know, I think one thing she’s always said is that God’s going to get us out of it, and he did,” he said.
"
But let's not forget Driver's work ethic. He may be a great personality on the show, but he also works hard at his craft.
As Suzan Clark found out, perhaps a lot harder than previous athletes that made an appearance.
"He and his partner, Peta Murgatroyd, insist that they will make it to the season’s final three couples. Murgatroyd was formerly partnered with NBA player Metta World Peace (formerly known as Ron Artest). They were the first pair to be cut last season.
Asked about the difference between teaching the NBA star and her current partner, she replied that Driver “shows up on time, wants to win, wants to be here.”
"
Well, at least she was subtle. And by subtle, I mean hilarious.
See? It's hard to not root for Donald Driver. He's got moves, he's got personality, he's got work ethic, he's good people.
Has he Lambeau-leaped into America's hearts?
No, that would be cheesy. But he certainly is someone we all should pull for.
