WWE: 7 Superstars Alberto Del Rio Should Challenge

Nick HouserJun 5, 2018

Alberto Del Rio returned with thunder by challenging World Heavyweight champion Sheamus, but if the feud dissolves, he’ll need to take on an equally big name to remain atop the WWE pyramid.

Luckily for him—and fans—there are plenty of superstars Del Rio can throw down with.

In fact, there are seven in particular that are perfect for him.

Booker T

1 of 7

The angle: Booker T trash talks Alberto Del Rio’s arrogance from the announcer’s table. Del Rio catches wind of it and takes exception.

The two begin a war of words.

Del Rio keys in on “King” Booker being a phony from Harlem. He calls him trash and boasts his own riches.

Naturally, Booker is convinced to enter into a one-on-one match to settle things.

He looked good at WrestleMania. It wouldn’t hurt to keep him in the ring.

The Big Show

2 of 7

The angle: Having lost out on the World Heavyweight title, Alberto Del Rio insists he deserves a belt. So he turns his efforts to the Intercontinental Title.

Del Rio can down everything from The Big Show’s intelligence to his camouflage beanie.

The Cody Rhodes-Big Show feud should be ending soon.

Show needs someone a little closer to his size to pick on. Del Rio is a good fit for that role.

The two started a feud in 2011.

Del Rio defeated Show in back-to-back matches with help from Mark Henry. Afterwards, the storyline progressed.

Perhaps, it'd make more sense for Show to challenge Del Rio though.

It could start with Show pointing out Del Rio has never beaten him solo and cleanly and the aristocrat jumping at the opportunity to prove Show wrong.

Randy Orton

3 of 7

The angle: Realistically, Randy Orton and Alberto Del Rio should be No. 1 contenders for the World Heavyweight or WWE Championships.

These two should square off.

The one who comes out on top is the rightful and obvious No. 1 contender for a title shot.

It could be as simple as this—Orton disposes of Kane and wants to advance into title contention. Del Rio halts him, stating he must go through him first.

Del Rio can even throw in his disapproval of Orton's "barbarism" against Kane.

Leave it to Alberto Del Rio to teach Randy Orton a lesson.

The Rock

4 of 7

The angle: This one would be tricky to set up.

But think about it. The Rock wants one more shot at the title. Alberto Del Rio—along with Daniel Bryan—is one of the top contenders for a title shot.

If The Rock wants a chance at the title, he needs to get in line.

Del Rio is brave enough to let him know.

Besides, The Rock needs to start somewhere.

John Cena

5 of 7

The angle: Alberto Del Rio is an aristocrat. John Cena, in Del Rio’s vision, is nothing more than a punk.

His t-shirts are loud. To Del Rio, only the lower class would rap and gesture as Cena does.

Cena might actually be able to win a few haters over, sticking it to a guy who prides himself in riches. Del Rio can increase his talent as a heel in Ted DiBiase like fashion.

Of course, Del Rio has to wait until Cena is done feuding with Brock Lesnar.

Just like the two slides prior, both of these guys can use the “vying for a title shot” angle as well.

They feuded late last year for the title. This time around, they would be dueling for the chance to contend.

CM Punk

6 of 7

The angle: Sheamus and Daniel Bryan continue and even intensify their feud. Chris Jericho meanwhile leaves to go on tour as previously speculated.

This opens up a vacancy for CM Punk.

Alberto Del Rio can once again utilize his shtick as the “Mexican Aristocrat” to verbally attack Punk’s straight edge style.

Jericho attacked Punk’s family and background.

Del Rio’s approach can be similar but less deep.

He can simply challenge him to a match for the WWE title on the grounds that Punk isn’t fit enough to be a champion. He isn’t affluent enough to represent the business.

The two were in the midst of a feud when Del Rio was injured. It makes sense to jump back in to the WWE Championship mix now that he's healthy, and it never actually concluded.

Daniel Bryan

7 of 7

The angle: Daniel Bryan and Alberto Del Rio are simultaneously attacking World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus.

The biggest obstacle may be each other.

The feud could go so many directions too.

Del Rio could help Bryan win back the title and then demand a match as repayment. The opposite could happen as well.

Or Bryan could constantly ruin Del Rio's chances at a legitimate win over Sheamus, angering Del Rio in the process.

There's multiple angles that will work.
