Larry Brown Reportedly Will Interview for SMU Head Coaching Position
Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown is reportedly interested in returning to the college ranks. ESPN is reporting that their own Andy Katz has learned from a source that Brown will interview for SMU's head coaching position on Sunday.
The coaching vacancy was created after the school fired Matt Doherty. He had been the Mustangs coach for six seasons.
Brown has not coached basketball since 2010, when he roamed the sidelines for the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats. The Bobcats were just one stop in his extensive, and well-traveled, NBA and college career.

He has not coached in college since 1998 when he won the national championship with Kansas. He accumulated a college coaching record of 177-61 in seven seasons with Kansas and UCLA.
After his run in college, he went onto a wealth of NBA success as he coached nearly one-third of all NBA teams (9), winning the 2004 NBA championship as coach of the Detroit Pistons.
Brown certainly brings a much bigger name than the two candidates who interviewed on Saturday: Marquette associate head coach Tony Benford and Indiana assistant Steve McClain.
However, the addition of this big name is not a complete shock. The Sporting News reported that St. Louis' Rick Majerus, Marquette's Buzz Williams and Long Beach State's Dan Monson, but that all three turned the job down.
SMU is scheduled to make the jump from Conference USA to the Big East in the fall of 2013, and they are clearly looking to make a splash before making the switch.
