2012 NFL Draft First-Round Odds: Arizona Cardinals

Sigmund BloomJun 7, 2018

The Arizona Cardinals are only a few years removed from back-to-back playoff visits and a trip to the Super Bowl that was this close to a win.

The team has some turmoil surrounding its starting quarterback after an unsuccessful run at Peyton Manning, but it was reasonably successful last year despite the problems at the position. How will the Cards use the No. 13 overall pick to get back in the hunt for a division title?

Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa: 50 percent

This is your odds-on favorite for the pick. The only real variable in my mind is whether a team like Jacksonville or Buffalo takes him before the Cardinals pick. The Cardinals could have another offensive lineman higher on their board, or perhaps opt for a wide receiver or pass rusher in a best player available scenario, but Reiff is a terrific instant fit at right tackle with left tackle upside. His nastiness and run blocking should appeal to Ken Whisenhunt.

David DeCastro, OG, Stanford: 25 percent

DeCastro is every bit the prospect that Reiff is overall, and he could even project at right tackle. He would also be an instant upgrade at guard and probably the best offensive lineman on the team the moment he stepped on the field. I wouldn't fault the Cardinals for taking him, but the need at tackle is more glaring than the need at guard, and the positional value favors the tackle.

Cordy Glenn, OL, Georgia: 5 percent

Glenn is a better left tackle prospect than he's being given credit for, but he can also project just fine at guard and right tackle. He is more athletic than Reiff and DeCastro, and he has more demonstrated versatility, but chances are he's lower on most boards.

Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford: 5 percent

Martin is another "consolation prize" at offensive tackle. He would be a desperation pick if Reiff and DeCastro are gone and they have misgivings about Glenn.

Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State: 5 percent

Don't be shocked if Blackmon falls through to Arizona's pick. If he gets past Buffalo, he'll be there for Arizona to take. Would they ignore their need on the offensive line to give Larry Fitzgerald another Anquan Boldin-type of receiver? It's at least 50-50 if he's there.

Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame: 5 percent

Floyd could also be a best player available pick because of his size/speed package and the way he could feast on secondaries preoccupied with Larry Fitzgerald. He is more likely to be there than Blackmon, and he might have just as high a grade on the Cardinals board.

Melvin Ingram, DE/OLB, South Carolina: 2.5 percent

Sam Acho's breakout was a nice surprise, but the Cardinals could still use a top-end all-around OLB on the other side unless O'Brien Schofield makes some big steps this year. Ingram's versatility makes him a consideration if he's there, even if the odds are long.

Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Alabama: 2.5 percent

If defensive coordinator Ray Horton had his way, Upshaw would probably be the pick. He is a rock-solid player against the run that brings attitude and intensity to the table, in addition to a relentless pass rush, albeit one that lacks great speed or quickness. If Reiff and DeCastro are gone, it's possible Upshaw could have a higher grade than the remaining offensive tackles or wide receivers.
