WWE: What's Next for AJ Now That Daniel Bryan Has Dumped Her?
Last week on SmackDown,ย Daniel Bryan publicly dumped his long-suffering girlfriend AJ. Her heart broken, she was devastated at the newsย and ran off weeping.
Per the storyline,ย the former World Heavyweight Champion blamed her for his embarrassing 18-second titleย loss to Sheamus at WrestleMania 28 last Sundayย and decided he had enough of his girlfriend "ruining his life."
The whole skit was likely devised by WWE creative to makeย Bryanโcurrently fighting off a face turn asย his popular โYES! YES! YES!โ catchphrase catches on in a huge, huge wayโlookย like a rude,ย boorish jerk, as well asย garnering sympathy for the likable, charismatic AJ who is, in many ways, becoming a modern-day Miss Elizabeth.ย ย .
So, what's next for the diva? Let's take a look at some places WWE could goย with her character now that she's newly single.
Reform the Chickbusters
1 of 5One possible option for AJ is to reform The Chickbusters tandem with Kaitlyn.
With their looks, charisma and endearing geekiness, the two were catching on as a femaleย double act on SDย before WWE's booking team decided to send them in different directions (AJ got put with Daniel Bryan, Kaitlynย is currently embroiled in a complicated love triangle with Derrick Bateman and Maxine on internet-only showย NXT).ย ย
Now that AJ is free of Bryan, maybe it's time for her and Kaitlyn to get back together as a team. It would certainly be a boon for WWE's floundering women's division, if nothing else.
Turn Heel and Rejoin Daniel Bryan
2 of 5Pretty, sweet, innocent, shy...come on, isn't AJ a little too good to be true?
Knowing the way WWE haveย liked to swerve their audience in recent times and pull the rug out from under them, it is very possible that aย shocking heel turnย and an on-screen reunion with her ex-boyfriend could be on the cards for the former NXT diva very, veryย soon.
Heel AJ? Now there's an interesting idea.
Go to Raw and Feud with Beth Phoenix
3 of 5Let's face it: Ever since she won the belt from Kelly Kelly at last year's Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, Divas Champion Beth Phoenix hasย had a lame, forgettable title run.
OK, sure she's the champion, but what real difference does that make when WWE's apathetic booking team refuses to do anything with her or book her in a credible manner?
Notably, Phoenixย came out looking worse in her most recent program with Maria Menounos, too.ย As most will know,ย she and Eve took on the team ofย Menounos and Kelly at WM 28, with the Divas Champion embarrassingly managing to get pinned by non-wrestler Menounos for the second time in theย four months (Phoenix was also pinned by the Extra hostย at WWE's Tribute to the Troops showย in December).
Yikes. Someone help out this poor woman's joke of a title reign.
With this in mind, maybe a feud with the highly popularย AJ (who canย move over to Raw claiming she needed "a fresh star" after her painful break up with Bryan) can help revive the Divas Championship and help make Phoenix relevantย again.
Go to Raw and Manage Zack Ryder
4 of 5Zack Ryder and AJ have a lot in common. Both have recently had their hearts broken by callous lovers (Zack with Eve, AJ with Bryan) and find their careers in limbo right now.
Hey, maybe the two could form a partnership, with AJ serving as his valet. After all, Ryder has spoken about wanting to move on from Eve with another diva and the geeky, affable AJ seems like a far betterย fit for him as a romantic partner than the vain, obnoxious Eve ever was.
It would also give AJ something useful to do now that her storyline with Bryan is (apparently) over.ย
Move to NXT
5 of 5The romantic entanglements andย tribulations ofย WWE's NXTย (a brilliant show which is surely one of WWE'sย best kept secrets)ย could certainly use a fresh face to come in and stir things up even more; so why not send AJ there for a littleย while to interact with the likes of Derrick Bateman, Maxine and Johnny Curtis?ย ย
The geeky AJ would be another wacky character in a show already full of them.
