WrestleMania 28: Power Ranking Possible Opponents for Undertaker's Next Feud

Tim DanielsMay 31, 2018

Undertaker pushed his undefeated run at WrestleMania to 20 matches with his second straight victory over Triple H in their “end of an era” battle. It was a terrific match inside Hell in a Cell and will be something wrestling fans won't soon forget.

Since he'll likely have another extended absence before next year's most important show, let's take a look at some potential opponents for him at WrestleMania 29.

1. John Cena

Even though Cena lost to The Rock on Sunday, Cena remains the leading candidate to take on Undertaker. He's one of the WWE's biggest stars and has an entire year to be rebuilt after the big loss, which will hopefully include a gimmick shift at some point.

Right now, it seems like the company is attempting to tear him down with losses. It's not a burial, but rather a prelude to something much larger on the horizon. Super Cena will be back eventually, and probably right in time for the next WrestleMania build.

Between the fans' hatred of how the Cena character continues to get handled and the streak on the line, it's a match that would have virtually no chance to fail. That's exactly what Vince McMahon loves.

2. Brock Lesnar

Lesnar returned to the WWE on Monday night and made his presence felt by delivering an F-5 to Cena, much to the Miami crowd's delight. The former UFC champion should have no problem becoming a mega main-event superstar like he was during his first run.

He was built into a powerhouse the first time around, becoming the youngest WWE champion of all time. That included an entertaining feud with Undertaker in which they had multiple pay-per-view matches, but none at WrestleMania.

Lesnar won't be wrestling a full-time schedule, but a couple of major victories over the next 12 months should be more than enough to make him appear like a viable threat to end the streak.

3. The Rock

The Rock spent a lot of time talking about all of his WWE and WrestleMania accomplishments during his storyline with Cena. However, the one thing he doesn't have—and nobody else has either—is a win over Undertaker at 'Mania.

After getting the clean pin on Sunday night, nobody has more momentum than him. How much will carry over once he returns from shooting more movies, whenever that may be, is yet to be seen. Nevertheless, Rocky will always maintain fan-favorite status.

Being on Undertaker's list has basically become a badge of honor for superstars, and The Rock has yet to get his. It's one of the few things he hasn't done, so it seems like a nice fit.
