Top 5 Kurt Angle Matches in WWE WrestleMania History
Kurt Angle is one of the best wrestlers to ever step foot in a squared circle. His career was not as long as some would have hoped for in WWE, but he certainly left his mark.
Sadly, it seems we have seen all of his matches at WrestleMania. I doubt we see him perform in front of 80,000 fans again at a major event. Thus, there is no better time to count down his five best matches.
Let's find out!
5. 2002
1 of 5Kurt Angle vs. Kane in 2002 reminds me of Randy Orton vs. Kane in 2012.
The feud is not going to go anywhere, but both men had to be on the WrestleMania show. I agree with that thought process, but it is still disappointing.
On this night, Toronto was treated to a great show.
Sadly, Kane and Angle had a very average match. The two are future WWE Hall of Famers, but I just never "felt" this very much.
To make matters worse, the ending sequence was incredibly messy. Just watch the final minute of the video posted.
Winner: Kurt Angle
4. 2006
2 of 5Kurt Angle was the reigning world champion.
He was defending his gold against both Rey Mysterio and Randy Orton. Being a triple threat match, it was hard to judge how the battle would go.
Well, all three brought their best. In only 10 minutes, these men delivered one of the best matches of the night. Bring a stacked show, that is a huge accomplishment.
While Angle retaining never seemed like an option, he more than showed off his excellent wrestling skills to the Chicago crowd. In the end, Mysterio won his first world title by pinning Orton.
Winner: Rey Mysterio
3. 2004
3 of 5Eddie Guerrero defended the WWE Championship against Kurt Angle at WrestleMania XX.
I have said multiple times that I find this match to be a little bit overrated. Trust me, it was a great match, but both men were capable of so much more.
I felt the same way about a lot of their matches together in 2004. For one reason or another, they never delivered that one "unbelievable" showing that I think they both wanted.
Either way, their match on March 14, 2004, was very entertaining. Guerrero cheated to retain, and Angle would add yet another wonderful match to his resume.
Winner: Eddie Guerrero
2. 2003
4 of 5This was Kurt Angle's first and only "true" WrestleMania main event. He was defending the WWE title against Brock Lesnar.
While the match had been given a few teasers in the weeks leading to Mania, this was set to be a dream match. Nobody wanted to miss this one. Fans all around the world knew how good these two were, and if anybody were capable of a memorable WWE Championship match, it was Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar.
Well, we were certainly treated to a masterpiece.
Angle was hurt heading into the match and being a heel, him winning was not an option. Thus, his job was to give Lesnar a huge platform as he won the gold.
He did just that. Kudos to both men!
Winner: Brock Lesnar
1. 2005
5 of 5Shawn Michaels vs. Kurt Angle.
One-on-one with no outside interference or screwy referee finish.
Two of the best ever with 30 minutes to prove themselves.
One playing a great heel, while the other is a perfect face.
Those are all the elements I want in this business. Being a dream match at WrestleMania and having plenty of time to work with, both men put on one of the greatest matches I have ever seen.
We didn't need a million swerves. We didn't need tons of wrestlers running in. We didn't need cheating or a bunch of low blows during the match.
We just needed two of the best wrestlers in WWE history to put on a show. Both men did just that, as Kurt Angle made Shawn Michaels tap out in the middle of the ring with an ankle lock.
Winner: Kurt Angle
