Kevin Nash Talks to B/R About WrestleMania 28, Last Run with WWE & More

Justin LaBarJun 7, 2018

In December, Kevin Nash was in one of the most hardcore matches of his career with one of his best friends at the WWE TLC pay-per-view. Three months later, Nash is preparing for a weekend of mingling with the fans and watching his closest friends perform on the biggest stage of the year.

The 52 year-old veteran will begin his WrestleMania weekend with his second annual Kevin Nash WrestleMania party in Miami, Florida. I spoke with in an extensive, hilarious at times, interview on TribLIVE Radio Tuesday. When talking about the party, he comically suggested we offer $1300 liver cleanse on Saturday as the party is scheduled to begin at 7pm and the venue Ocean's Ten stays open until 5am.

The weekend will be fun but Nash also recognizes from both a worker in the business and from a fans point of view, this WrestleMania is going to be huge. In fact, Nash predicted that this would be the highest bought WrestleMania ever.

"

“My prediction is around 1.4 [million buys]. That's my number. There's so much in this.”

"

The highest number of pay-per-view buys goes to WrestleMania 23 with 1.2 million.

The card is complete with a variety of stories and characters for fans. It has an all out promotional campaign that features specials airing on The Rock and John Cena on NBC channels as well as profile videos on the superstars on the YouTube homepage on Friday, March 30.

Nash noted that a valuable weapon to this event is the combination of the celebrity being one of the biggest names in wrestling history.

"

“In the past, the special guest at WrestleMania would be a Shatner or somebody like that. Even Mike Tyson, though Mike Tyson is a fighter, Mike wasn't going to go out there and work 20 or 30 minutes, I think L.T. was the exception. This one here, your special guest is kinda The Rock. Here's a guy who's one of the boys and legend.”

"

Nash related the build to The Rock vs John Cena to him growing up and remembering the build to the first classic boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. In addition to the long build and heavy promotion, the documented genuine animosity between The Rock and John Cena adds another element of interest for viewers.

"

“I wouldn't want to bet money on the finish and that it's a work.”

"

The Rock vs John Cena certainly will finish the night, but the first Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania in 13 years is garnering its fair share of attention. For Nash, it holds a special place in his weekend as it features two of his best friends in Triple H and special referee, Shawn Michaels.

A match Nash is excited to see but can't decide how and where he wants to enjoy it.

"

“So much of their match is facials and the story that they tell. I'd like to have that announcer talk to me and guide me along in the story. Sometimes I have to be at a monitor for that so, kinda thrown up on this one on whether or not I wanna be backstage by a monitor or be up in the sky box like I was last year, in Atlanta and take in the spectacle. I have feeling this ones gonna be pretty special and I didn't realize how much I missed last year until I re-watched it.”

"

WrestleMania traditionally showcases the companie's best and brings closure to many of that year's storylines. Months ago, it appeared Nash was in the position to possibly be on the card at WrestleMania 28, as he made a return to WWE programming from August to December.

While Nash enjoyed his time back in front of a worldwide audience each Monday night, he also is honest about being able to have what it takes to be on the roster during WrestleMania season.

"

“It's funny, as this WrestleMania came forward and I got caught up in they hype, got caught in to the road to WrestleMania as I'm watching on RAW, it was almost like a relief that I wasn't under the pressure to have perform to have to to be at that level.”

"

WWE fans last saw Nash in December in a Tables Ladders & Chairs match against his real life best friend in Triple H, a match and performance Nash is proud to go out on.

"

“I gave it all I had. I don't think ten years earlier in my career I would have took that bump off the ladder through the table. One of those things, going into it I looked at it as maybe my last match ever with WWE. I'm out there with one of my best friends in the world. You couldn't have a better setting, I was completely happy with it.”

"
"

“If you were to pick a match and say which match would you not want to put Kevin Nash in, I' think it would be a ladder match. That being my last match, us having to do the smoke and mirrors we did to get around, both of us were pretty beat up. Paul's no spring chicken, Paul's ten years younger than I am, Paul's got a lot of miles on him, Paul's worked his ass off, he's pretty beat up. Let's not forget how many years he carried that company. It was what it was, I know that I couldn't have gave anything more than I gave that night and I felt it for a couple of weeks afterwards.”

"

Rested up from his brutal, potentially, final match with WWE, Nash is excited about what the future holds. He has two major motion pictures coming out in 2012 he is featured in. One where he plays the bodyguard of Tom Cruise called “Rock of Ages” and the other a male dancer with a cast led by Channing Tatum in “Magic Mike.”

As for this weekend, you can party with Kevin Nash, Sean “X-Pac” Waltman, DDP and many others, Friday, March 30 at Ocean's Ten. General Admission tickets can be purchased at the door. If you can't make it to Miami, Nash is offering video autographs where you can purchase a personalized video from Nash with him saying or answering whatever you want. Information on that can be found at NashnFriends.com.

It's a busy weekend of fun ahead.

"

“I think the fans are gonna be just exhausted, there will be a lot of people taking Monday off.”
