Washington vs. Minnesota: Huskies' Explosive Offense Will Blast Past Minnesota

Timothy RappJun 7, 2018

Minnesota is battle tested this year, having waged war in the difficult Big Ten all season long. But they won't be able to stop the offensive blitzkrieg the Washington Huskies will unleash on them tonight.

Washington's lowest point total in this year's NIT is 76 points. They have two NBA-ready guards in Terrence Ross and Tony Wroten, Jr. who have been excellent in this year's tournament.

Ross has led the scoring barrage, averaging 26.3 points in the tournament. Wroten rediscovered his scoring touch against Oregon in the quarterfinals, posting 22 points after only managing 11 points in the first two games. He did dish out 15 assists and snare nine rebounds in those games, however.

It's not just about scoring of course—Washington is also one of the best rebounding teams in the country, averaging 40.3 boards per game, which is 5th in the nation.

Minnesota's only real chance is to play stifling defense and shoot at a high percentage on the other end of the floor. If they can keep Washington under 70 points, they'll have a chance in this one.

Washington is traveling across the country to play in this game at Madison Square Garden. Leaving the comfy confines of their home court, where the Huskies are 15-2 this season, it's possible that they could simply come out cold.

But if they don't, the Huskies simply have too much talent for Minnesota to overcome. Frankly, Washington is an NCAA tournament team that was shafted and now has the rest of the NIT to take its anger out upon.

That, plus the team's NBA-level talent in terms of Wroten and Ross is a death sentence for the Golden Gophers. It was a good run while it lasted—Minnesota beat three higher-seeded teams on the road—but the road ends with an offensive onslaught at the hands of Washington.
