2012 NFL Mock Draft: Easy Picks Your Team Won't Pass Up

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

The NFL draft is now less than one month away. Teams are putting the finishing touches of their draft boards and making sure all the final scouting has been completed.

With the league more competitive than ever, every selection has become important.

Here's a complete mock draft of the first round that features players who are perfect fits and will therefore be easy picks for their new franchises.

1. Indianapolis Colts (2-14): Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

The Colts continue to say all the right things about evaluating their options with the first pick, but Luck remains a virtual lock.

2. Washington Redskins (via STL 2-14): Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor

Washington made a blockbuster trade to acquire this pick with the sole purpose of drafting Griffin. After dealing with Rex Grossman and John Beck under center last season, it's hard to blame the front office for going all-out to land the Heisman winner.

His dynamic skills make him a perfect quarterback to build an offense around. Once he establishes himself in the league, players will be flocking to the Redskins to join him. Washington has been known to throw big money around to land free agents.

Since he had good showings at both the combine and his Pro Day, any concerns about him being a one-year wonder should be gone.

He's going to be a tremendous QB at the next level, and the Redskins will be lucky to have him.

3. Minnesota Vikings (3-13): Matt Kalil, OT, USC

Kalil will anchor Minnesota's offensive line for the next decade, eliminating one major concern.

4. Cleveland Browns (4-12): Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

Cleveland needs to add more skill position stars on offense. Richardson is a perfect start.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-12): Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

Claiborne has asserted himself as the draft's biggest defensive star and will help Tampa Bay's defense right away.

6. St. Louis Rams (via WAS 5-11): Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State

Sam Bradford deserves more weapons before a final judgment is made about his ability to become a franchise quarterback.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars (5-11): Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina

Jacksonville didn't get nearly enough pressure on opposing quarterbacks last season. Only one player, Jeremy Mincey, had more than four sacks. It's clear the Jaguars need somebody who can be a disruptive force on a consistent basis.

Coples showed off his versatility by moving inside for North Carolina, but he'll excel if given a chance to come off the edge in the NFL. He already has the speed to get around tackles—now he just needs to add a little more strength to become the complete package.

Since the league continues to provide more advantages to high-powered passing games, it's more important than ever that a team can put heat on the quarterback. Coples will ensure that's no longer an issue for the Jaguars.

8. Miami Dolphins (6-10): Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M

After watching Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn land elsewhere, the Dolphins will take a chance on Tannehill.

9. Carolina Panthers (6-10): Michael Brockers, DT, LSU

Even though his stock has been like the stock market in terms of volatility, his upside makes him a top-10 pick.

10. Buffalo Bills (6-10): Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa

The Bills are shaping up as one of next season's sleeper teams. They addressed their biggest need by adding Mario Williams and Mark Anderson to the defensive line. Buffalo also brought back No. 1 receiver Stevie Johnson.

Don't forget about the team's 5-2 start before falling apart down the stretch last year, so those upgrades should be enough to push them into the playoff conversation. Add in Reiff, who would give the Bills a much-needed upgrade at tackle following the departure of Demetrius Bell, and Buffalo is in business.

There have been questions raised about Reiff's arm length—which falls short of the average tackle—but his performance at Iowa shows he can hold his own. The Bills can't afford to enter the season without adding a tackle, so it's an ideal fit for both sides.

11. Kansas City Chiefs (7-9): Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama

Upshaw will help fix one of the league's worst pass-rushing defenses, starting immediately in Week 1.

12. Seattle Seahawks (7-9): Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford

Now that the Seahawks have brought in Matt Flynn, Martin will be the man to protect him.

13. Arizona Cardinals (8-8): Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

Larry Fitzgerald could really use some help in Arizona, and Floyd would provide it.

14. Dallas Cowboys (8-8): Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been searching for a corner like Kirkpatrick for years.

15. Philadelphia Eagles (8-8): Luke Kuechly, ILB, Boston College

Kuechly is far from the most flashy pick, but he'd bring some much-needed consistency to Philadelphia's defense.

16. New York Jets (8-8): David DeCastro, OG, Stanford

After being a part of a dominant offensive line at Stanford, DeCastro will help revitalize the Jets' running game.

17. Cincinnati Bengals (via OAK 8-8): Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama

Cincinnati would be getting a steal if Jenkins can stay out of the commissioner's office for off-field issues.

18. San Diego Chargers (8-8): Melvin Ingram, OLB, South Carolina

Ingram would finally fill the Chargers' void at outside linebacker, which should boost the pass rush.

19. Chicago Bears (8-8): Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin

The Bears offense needs better blocking to reach an elite level. Konz would strengthen the interior.

20. Tennessee Titans (9-7): Devon Still, DT, Penn State

Tennessee barely missed the playoffs last season. Still can be the piece that pushes them over the hump.

21. Cincinnati Bengals (9-7): Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State

It's another strong class of defensive tackles, and Cox might be the most prepared of them all to play right away.

22. Cleveland Browns (via ATL 10-6): Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor

Another offensive skill position player to upgrade Cleveland's lackluster attack.

23. Detroit Lions (10-6): Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State

The Lions are closing in on something big once they upgrade in the trenches with players like Adams.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4): Cordy Glenn, OG, Georgia

Glenn is one of the draft's most underrated players, but the Steelers aren't going to complain about the lack of hype.

25. Denver Broncos (8-8): Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State

With Peyton Manning aboard to lead the offense, the Broncos should be focused on adding defensive players in the draft.

26. Houston Texans (10-6): Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech

Hill's lightning quickness impressed scouts at the combine, likely enough to slide him into Round 1.

27. New England Patriots (via NO 13-3): Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska

The Patriots have no other choice but to address their problems in the secondary.

28. Green Bay Packers (15-1): Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis

Green Bay can't overreact about losing in the playoffs. The Packers still have a solid foundation, and Poe will fill a need.

29. Baltimore Ravens (12-4): Dont'a Hightower, ILB, Alabama

Finding young defensive stars like Hightower will help the Ravens remain elite on defense for years to come.

30. San Francisco 49ers (13-3): Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina

The 49ers should still be looking for another playmaker on offense, but Gilmore provides better value at this point.

31. New England Patriots (13-3): Mark Barron, SS, Alabama

Barron should shine in New England. He's the class' best safety and will benefit from extended playing time.

32. New York Giants (9-7): Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford

Coming off a Super Bowl triumph, the Giants will give Eli Manning another potential star to work with in Fleener.
