NFL: Teams Affected by Peyton Manning Signing with the Broncos

Andrew DunnJun 5, 2018

After weeks and months of speculation, Peyton Manning finally found a new home. The Denver Broncos will have one of the best quarterbacks of this generation under center, thus making them an immediate Super Bowl contender.

Now, we can say all that about the Broncos, but who else will Manning's decision affect? Teams will now have to see him more often than they usually would, making life hard for them.

In addition, there are some teams that clearly failed in their quest to court Manning. Here are those teams affected by the decision.

Washington Redskins

Once Washington traded up to get the second-overall pick in the NFL draft, their quest for Peyton Manning basically stopped. Still, there was a time when Washington could have had him.

Last season, the Redskins decided they wanted to go with Rex Grossman and John Beck at quarterback. For some reason, that didn't work out—couldn't imagine why not. When the Manning chatter began, the Redskins were one of the leading candidates.

Now, they are likely going to be going with Robert Griffin III, who is one great rookie prospect, but he's not Peyton Manning.

Miami Dolphins

Of all the teams that were in pursuit of the illustrious Peyton Manning, Miami was probably the one team that needed him the most. Fans were calling for him, and despite Matt Moore's greatest efforts in 2011-12, he's not a great answer.

For now, though, Moore appears to be the man in Miami. The Dolphins were one of the leading candidates down to the wire to get Manning and was likely his second choice (seriously, who wouldn't want to play in Florida?).

There are a lot of changes going on in Miami at this point, and they were praying that Manning would be a part of these changes. He was not, and that likely means five or six more losses for the team than they would have had with No. 18.

Tennessee Titans

Honestly, the Titans are affected in a different way. The Skins and Dolphins were both really in need of Manning, but the Titans, in my opinion, should never have been gunning for him in the first place.

They already have a veteran presence in Matt Hasselbeck and a star in the making with Jake Locker. Why bring in Manning when you've already got a fair amount of money tied up in two quarterbacks?

I realize that neither guy is Peyton Manning and likely won't get Tennessee a Super Bowl in 2012. However, it's now time for Locker to step into the spotlight—Manning going to Denver actually was beneficial for the Titans.

All AFC West Teams

4 of 5

This one is pretty simple to understand.

Any division with Peyton Manning in it is forever going to be changed. Now, Denver—fresh off a division win under Tim Tebow—has a much better quarterback taking over. If you play for San Diego, Kansas City or Oakland, you have to be concerned.

All the criticism previously said that Denver only got in because they had a great defense and good running game, all while Tebow managed not to make mistakes. Now, they have a passing game.

Denver is in for another AFC West title.

Arizona Cardinals

5 of 5

Kevin Kolb and John Skelton carried the Arizona Cardinals to a respectable 8-8 record in 2011, though most of that work was done by Skelton (a more talented quarterback).

They were finalists in the Manning showdown, but came up short. They were everyone's favorite choice and thought Manning going to Arizona would be the brightest thing he could do, which I am still inclined to agree with.

Now, the Cards have invested way too much money in Kevin Kolb, and he is likely going to be taking place in a position battle with Skelton. While Skelton did well in 2011, neither of them have Manning's level of talent, and things aren't looking so far up in the desert.
