NBA Trade Deadline 2012: Possible Destinations for Free Agent Gilbert Arenas

Servontay MooreJun 7, 2018

Gilbert Arenas was cut earlier this season by the Magic, and since then we haven’t heard much from Agent Zero.

This is one player that can help a team make a late season run and solidify a playoff spot. With a number of teams lacking at point guard, here are some teams that can use Arenas without giving up any players in exchange or picking up a big contract.

Los Angeles Lakers: City of Angels

Home sweet home—where Gilbert Arenas played high school basketball in L.A.

Even though Arenas has been rehabbing a knee, the Lakers need another guard to go with Derek Fisher and Steve Blake. It has already been widely reported that the Lakers worked Gilbert Arenas out a few weeks ago.

Sounds like a perfect fit with another scorer on the perimeter to join Kobe Bryant, but the chemistry that is big in L.A. wouldn’t be the same. Just imagine Arenas and Metta World Peace on the same bench.

Los Angeles Clippers: Lob City

We don’t have to go far for the next possible fit with the Clippers playing in the Staples Center as well.

After the veteran point guard Chauncey Billups was lost for the year, the veteran leadership was lost as well. For one of the youngest teams with a plethora of point guards, a veteran is what this team could use.

This would be the perfect situation for the 11-year vet to come into and change the perception of him being the bad guy. Blake Griffin, CP3 and the Agent Zero in Lob City sounds like the beginning of a good story in the making.

Minnesota Timberwolves : Twin City

After rookie sensation Ricky Rubio went out for the rest of the season, the Wolves were automatically thrown into the market for a point guard.

Arenas would be a perfect fit for the Wolves to rent for the rest of the year, while they try to secure the final playoff spot in the West. Arenas could contribute quality minutes with J.J. Barea and Luke Ridnour, the only true guards on the roster.

It wouldn’t be a perfect fit, but it’s better than nothing— and the Wolves still have the double-double machine, Kevin Love.

Atlanta Hawks: Welcome to the South

4 of 5

The Atlanta Hawks have a dynamic team with Josh Smith, Joe Johnson and the injured Al Horford, but it hasn't gotten the job done in the playoffs.

Add another scorer to this team like Arenas, and the Hawks might make it out the first round this year. With Jeff Teague coming into his own in the league, a one-two punch with two explosive guards can give the Hawks an edge in the East.

If age was ever a factor, it's definitely not a problem in Atlanta with Tracy McGrady on the roster.

Chicago Bulls: The Windy City

The Bulls are still looking for that missing piece. Another scorer next to Derrick Rose would solidify a deep run to the championship. Rip Hamilton was the answer, but he has been plagued with injuries throughout the season.

Arenas wouldn’t mind playing in the Eastern conference where he had some of his best years with the Wizards. With Arenas being able to play the one or the two, he would be a great fit alongside D Rose. He wouldn’t have to be the premier player behind the reigning MVP, but he can always light the Hibachi up for old times’ sake.
