March Madness 2012: Anthony Davis and Top Playmakers in the NCAA Tournament

Brian MaziqueMar 11, 2012

The major stars are beginning to make themselves even more known after Championship Week, and now they will perform on the biggest stage.

The programs across the country are full of stars, but the players listed here are college basketball's best.

These players stop runs on offense or defense, and in some cases both. Here are the five best play-makers heading into the NCAA tournament.

Anthony Davis Kentucky C - 14 PPG, 10 RPG, 4.6 BPG

The uni-brow has been a dominating defensive force all season. He leads the nation with 4.6 blocked shots per game. Davis is also the leading scorer and rebounder for the nation's top team.

At 6'10" with arms that go forever, he is a constant issue for opposing teams that venture into the lane.

He is instrumental in getting the Wildcats into transition, via the block or defensive rebound. He is also the best scoring option inside.

College Basketball fans should take it all in now, because this will likely be the only NCAA tournament Davis will play in.

Next year around this time, he'll be in the NBA.

Thomas Robinson Kansas F - 18 PPG, 12 RPG

Robinson has been the nation's best player all year. He has averaged a strong double-double and he's just a beast on the block. Robinson looks like a tight end, but he has awesome speed and agility.

He is relentless and ultra competitive. He has the ability to carry his team with talent and desire.

If the Jayhawks perimeter players knock down shots, Robinson can and will handle in the interior scoring.

Andrew Nicholson St. Bonaventure F/C - 18.4 PPG, 8.4 RPG

Nicholson is a surprise here, but he has tremendous scoring ability in close. He puts the ball on the floor well going left or right.

He has a great touch, and a great compliment of moves near the basket.

Because he doesn't play for a major program, many haven't heard of him. As the Bonnies take the floor in the NCAA tournament, those that are unaware will see for themselves.

His 26 point, 14 rebound, eight blocked shot performance in the Atlantic 10 final was no fluke.

Nicholson is the real deal.

Harrison Barnes UNC F - 17 PPG, 5 RPG

Barnes hasn't been as solid late, as he had been early in the season. Don't let that fool you, Barnes is a top notch scorer and clutch performer.

He can score inside or outside and he's the best player on one of the nation's most talented teams.

Barnes will step it up in the NCAA tournament as a well rounded Tar Heels' squad should hit their stride.

If there is a big bucket to be had, Barnes will be the man to take and make it. He is the biggest reason this team is a legitimate national championship contender.

Jared Sullinger Ohio State F/C - 17.5 PPG, 9.25 RPG

Sully is the most skilled low-post player in the country. He has even added three-point range to his tool-box. He has knocked down 39 percent of his threes this year.

What he does is not flashy, but its effective. He's a wide body that plays physical, but he has marvelous foot work and a nice touch.

Sullinger is the center-piece of the Buckeyes offense, as the three-point shooters get most of their opportunities from him.

He has to be doubled, and even then sometimes he scores. He will perform well in the NCAA tournament. If he gets support, the Bucks could go to the Final Four.
