San Francisco 49ers Mock Draft: Take a Look at DraftTek's Latest 7-Round Mock

Phil GJun 7, 2018

With draft talk heating up, fans are scrounging the Internet for up-to-date mock drafts detailing their team's next possible superstar. As a fan myself, I can relate.

49ers fans are no different. Niners fans are clamoring for a true threat at receiver, and rightfully so. It was a pitiful performance by the receiver group in the Conference Championship against the New York Giants

Another offensive lineman wouldn't hurt as well. Alex Smith took major beatings last season despite the improved performance of the line.

Even after the 49ers' magical 2012 season, fans want more. They expect more. This could be the draft that further distances the 49ers from the rest of the NFC West.

Luckily, DraftTek feeds our draft needs with an updated seven-round mock draft.

Here is an analysis of their 49ers draft selections.

Round 1: Dwayne Allen, Clemson (TE)

1 of 7

This was a perplexing selection by DraftTek.

The 49ers have needs on offense, but the tight end position isn't one of them.

The 49ers boast two of the more explosive tight ends in football in Vernon Davis and Delanie Walker.

Walker was hampered by the broken jaw, but it seems he will make a full recovery heading into next season.

When healthy, Walker was sensational as the second tight end.

He improved as a blocker and was considered a major threat as a pass catcher.

Jim Harbaugh employs numerous-tight-end sets within his West Coast scheme, so I can understand why DratfTek would value the position so highly. Still, selecting a position of strength this high in the draft seems like a reach.

A better selection would be at guard or receiver. I expect Trent Baalke to move out of the first round if he isn't able to fill those two positions of need.

Round 2: Marvin Jones, California (WR)

2 of 7

Marvin Jones was a standout during Senior Bowl week.

He has great size, and with a 4.46 40, Jones should definitely have the speed to create separation at the line—something the Niners desperately need.

I only have one quibble with this selection.

The Niners should be able to select Jones in the third or fourth round. A second-round selection may be a reach.

Also, Jones will probably not turn into the No. 1 receiver the Niners desperately crave. Jones is more suitable to play the slot than the X or Z positions.

If the 49ers can grab the Cal product in the third or fourth round, they could have a steal.

Round 3: Robert Turbin, Utah State (RB)

3 of 7

This was another perplexing selection by DraftTek.

The 49ers should not select a running back this high in the draft, unless the back will be the next Adrian Peterson or Chris Johnson.

Turbin, though talented, will join an already crowed backfield.

I can see Harbaugh giving Kendall Hunter a more expanded role as Frank Gore's backup, which should leave little playing time for the other Niners running backs.

The 49ers should target a young DB in this round.

They drafted a talented DB in Chris Culliver in the third round of last year's draft, and that worked out quite nicely.

Round 4: Ryan Steed, Furman (CB)

4 of 7

DraftTek finally has the 49ers landing a DB.

I love this selection.

This reminds me of the Chris Culliver selection of last years' draft.

I actually expect Steed to go higher in the draft. He is raw but has the talent and physical capabilities to flourish at the next level.

He needs more experience and tutelage, but the talent is there.

Steed is a project, but in a few years, I can see him opposite Culliver in the 49ers defensive backfield.

The Niners may have to select the Furman product in the third round, or risk losing him to many corner-needy teams.

Round 5: Ronnie Hillman, San Diego State (RB)

5 of 7

Another running back?

I actually like this selection, simply because of the low risk-high reward angle.

Selecting a running back in the fifth round means the Niners have likely filled their major needs in the earlier rounds.

Hillman could be a steal for the 49ers in the fifth round. I expect Hillman to be off the board by the third or fourth round.

The 49ers could receive great value with this selection.

At 5'10", Hillman is somewhat undersized, but I doubt the Niners front brass will lose sleep. They draft an undersized running back in Hunter last year, and that selection turned out to be a beauty.

Some fans believed Hunter reminded them of Frank Gore, but I disagree.

Hillman has the short burst and suddenness that Gore thrives with. He is effective as an inside-the-tackle runner and on the outside.

I expect Hillman to be off the board in the fourth round.

Round 6: Desmond Wynn, Rutgers (OG)

6 of 7

The 49ers could draft Wynn simply for depth purposes.

The right guard position is a need for the 49ers, but I expect Daniel Kilgore, their fifth-round selection in last year's draft, to start next season.

I have stated my affection for Kilgore several times, in various articles.

With Adam Snyder and Chilo Rachal headed to free agency, expect the Niners to use a late-round selection on a offensive guard.

Wynn is raw but talented. He should be considered a prospect as a run-mauling guard.

I can't envision the Rutgers product playing left guard at the next level.

Round 7: Chigbo Anunoby, Morehouse College (DT)

7 of 7

I love this selection.

Anunoby is a pure run-stopper with little pass-rushing skills.

He should be effective as a developmental NT for a 3-4 defense.

Anunoby can also play as a 4-3 DT in a two-gap scheme.

The Niners selected a developmental prospect in Ricky Jean-Francois in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL draft. Francois played well when given the opportunity.

I can envision Anunoby following the same path as Jean-Francois.
