NBA Trade Speculation: Dwight Howard and 13 Must-Have Deadline Deals
The clock is ticking, and these deals need to get done before the March 15th NBA trade deadline.
As Bleacher Report’s resident NBA GM, it’s time to spin the trade wheel again.
Dwight Howard’s numbers prove that he’s not mailing it in, but his heart clearly isn’t addressed to the Orlando Magic. Since the Los Angeles Lakers might have blown their chances, it’s now this deal that makes the most sense.
If Dwight Howard is staying after all, then the Magic have to go big. Even if it means trading their attractive pieces, a last-ditch attempt at another superstar might help keep Howard or at least give Orlando a name for afterwards.
In the past two weeks, I’ve already hypothetically sent Pau Gasol to the Houston Rockets, as well as the Memphis Grizzlies, New Jersey Nets, Atlanta Hawks and the Orlando Magic.
However, this highly underrated deal’s substance over style makes the Los Angeles Lakers better at a reasonable price for all involved.
If the Lakers want to retain the Big Three and just add some more firepower, by chipping in a first-round pick and some cash, they can buy low now for little risk.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are clearly on the rise, but this deal’s scoring star power could fix their wing problems for good.
The Cleveland Cavaliers could also build their backcourt of the future, while giving Mark Jackson the toughness he’s lacking with the Golden State Warriors.
It’s also time to move expiring contracts, dump salary and ditch players who need a change of scenery.
The Detroit Pistons won’t light the world on fire with this, but they could at least take a flier with this.
The Boston Celtics must add something for their stretch run. They can address their center or wild-card issues by calling the Milwaukee Bucks.
Chris Kaman deserves to be set free. His expiring contract would always fit here, while the New Orleans Hornets would like this, but Kaman would probably prefer this.
As always, put on your own GM hats and leave me your ideas, praise and/or horrified expressions.
