Buffalo Bills: What If Buffalo Had All of Its Draft Picks of the Last Decade?

Greg MaiolaJun 7, 2018

What if the Buffalo Bills had every single player that they drafted over the past 10 years? No free agents; just draft picks. What kind of ball club would the Bills look like? All players drafted from 2001-2011 make up the Bills roster listed below.

If Buffalo had to create a team with the players they selected, it should look something like this:

Quarterback: JP Losman

With his rocket arm, he is more appealing than Buffalo's only other two quarterback selections, Trent Edwards and Levi Brown. Edwards may have been the more accurate of the two, but Losman was more athletic and could throw a rocket. Brown hardly showed promise, but wasn't expected to do much. Losman wins the toss-up, but did not deliver for Buffalo.

Running Back: Willis McGahee

Tough selection to make, as Marshawn Lynch and Travis Henry had some quality NFL seasons. McGahee has had success with Baltimore and Denver and is elusive as not only a runner, but also a pass-catcher. Lynch is heating up in Seattle and may end up being the better of the two running backs.

The other running backs selected by Buffalo were Jarrett Ferguson, Lionel Gates, Dwayne Wright, Xavier Omon, CJ Spiller and Johnny White. If Spiller can play as well as he did towards the end of 2011, he might be a durable NFL running back.

Fullback

The Bills did not select a fullback within the last 10 years. Their fullbacks have been all free agent additions.

Tight End: Shawn Nelson

He "earns" the starting job because he is the most athletic of the tight ends drafted. The Bills have longed for a true tight end but had whiffed with every one drafted.

Other selections include Dan O' Leary, Tim Euhus, Kevin Everett, Derek Schouman and Derek Fine.

Wide Receivers: Lee Evans and Stevie Johnson

Lee Evans was a fan favorite and leader for the Buffalo Bills. He was consistent and had highlight-reel catches. He played with several quarterbacks in his career and still had success.

Stevie Johnson was the only player in Bills history to record 1,000 receiving yards in consecutive seasons. He has good hands, quick feet and is a tremendous route runner.

The other receivers drafted by Buffalo are Reggie Germany, Josh Reed, Rodney Wright, Sam Aiken, Jonathan Smith, Roscoe Parrish, James Hardy and Marcus Easly.

Center: Eric Wood

Wood was playing at a Pro-Bowl level before he was injured in 2011.

The only other centers drafted by Buffalo were Mike Pucillo and Duke Preston.

Offensive Guards: Andy Levitre and Ben Sobieski

Levitre is the only guard who earned the right to make the team. He is a solid guard who does a good job protecting the quarterback.

Sobieski played only a few seasons with Buffalo, but was better than the other two guards drafted. Justin Geisinger and Aaron Merz were the only other two drafted by Buffalo.

Offensive Tackles: Demetrius Bell and Brad Butler

Bell and Butler started most of the games that they played in. They were picked later in the draft, but have played well for the Bills. Mike Williams was a complete bust and waste of a first-round pick. Butler shocked the Bills by retiring at age 26, and Bell is a priority free agent for them.

Other offensive tackles drafted by Buffalo are Marques Sullivan, Dylan McFarland, Terrance Pennington, Ed Wang, Kyle Calloway and Chris Hariston.

Defensive Tackles: Kyle Williams and Marcel Dareus.

Williams is a Pro Bowl tackle and has earned a big payday from Buffalo. He is one of the best defensive tackles in all of the NFL. Dareus was a top rookie in 2011 after being drafted out of Alabama. He should anchor the d-line for years to come.

Other defensive tackles drafted by Buffalo are Ron Edwards, Tyrone Robertson, Justin Bannan, Lauvale Sape, Tim Anderson, John McCargo and Michael Jasper.

Defensive Ends: Aaron Schobel and Chris Kelsey

Kelsey has moved back and forth from the linebacker position, but was drafted for the end and has done well there. Schobel has made the Pro Bowl and had Tom Brady's number for years.

The other defensive ends drafted by Buffalo were Ryan Denney, CJ Ah You, Chris Ellis, Aaron Maybin, Alex Carrington, Arthur Moats and Danny Batten. Maybin, Moats and Batten have all been moved to the linebacker position.

Linebackers: Angelo Crowell, Paul Posluzny, Mario Haggan and Kelvin Sheppard

Before injuries kicked in, Crowell was a tackling machine for Buffalo. Both he and Posluzny were leaders on defense. Posluzny struggled to stay on the field due to injuries but was a force on defense. Haggan has had NFL success in Denver and Sheppard should improve on a good rookie season. The other linebackers drafted by Buffalo were Brandon Spoon, Dominique Stevenson, Keith Ellison, Alvin Bowen and Chris White.

Cornerbacks: Nate Clements and Terrence McGee

Clements was a Pro Bowl corner for Buffalo, and McGee made the Pro Bowl as a returner. They were the best that Buffalo drafted, and Clements has had success outside of Buffalo.

The other cornerbacks drafted by Buffalo were Jimmy Williams, Kevin Thomas, Eric King, Ashton Youboty, Leodis McKelvin, Reggie Corner, Kennard Cox, Cary Harris, Ellis Lankster, Aaron Williams and Justin Rogers.

Safeties: Donte Whitner and Jairus Byrd

Whitner was a physical safety for Buffalo, and Byrd is a ball-hawking defensive back. Whitner has developed into a suitable safety in San Fransisco, and Byrd made the Pro Bowl in his rookie season.

Other safeties drafted by Buffalo were Tony Driver, Ko Simpson, Nic Harris, Da'Norris Searcy, Coy Wire (converted to linebacker) and John Whendling.

Excluding kickers and punters, this is what the Buffalo Bills football team would look like if constructed entirely by its draft selections. Not knowing if Buffalo would have a 3-4 or a 4-3, I listed four linebackers and four defensive linemen.

Would this Buffalo Bills team be successful?
