NBA Trade Rumors: Why No NBA Team Should Deal for Stephen Jackson
Well, it was only a matter of time before Stephen Jackson started acting up again.
In the past eight seasons, the enigmatic swing-man has worn out his welcome with the Indiana Pacers, Golden State Warriors, Charlotte Bobcats and now, the Milwaukee Bucks.
Jackson recently talked with Rod Burks of Channel 4 (NBC) in Milwaukee about his relationship with Bucks coach Scott Skiles, via the Journal Times:
""We don't have no relationship like I've had with other coaches and I don't expect to have one. Too much stuff has happened."
"
What relationship with other coaches is Jackson speaking of? He butted heads with Rick Carlisle in Indiana, he had problems with Don Nelson in Oakland, and he was a pain for both Larry Brown and Paul Silas in Charlotte.
There is such thing as head coaches being a bit overbearing, but after Jackson's fifth run-in with a coach, it's becoming quite evident that he's a problem child.
Jackson made headlines this offseason for saying he was unhappy the Bucks hadn't offered him an extension after acquiring him from the Bobcats. Keep in mind, he hadn't played a minute of basketball at that time. Jackson wants an extension despite having another year and $10 million on his contract and being 33 years old.
On top of that, he's shooting 36 percent from the floor and 28 percent from downtown while committing 2.7 turnovers per game.
Hello! Earth to Stephen! Why should the Bucks give you an extension?
The Bucks, obviously, can't wait to get rid of Jackson, who they actually thought would help them when they acquired him in the summer. In that regard, they'll be looking to deal him before the March 15 trade deadline.
If they can't deal him, they'll likely amnesty him in July.
It's going to be hard to find a trade partner, and it will likely take a lot, as Gery Woelfel of the Times notes:
"There are some NBA officials who believe Jackson could be traded if he was part of a package, perhaps with talented young forward Irsan Ilyasova or perhaps with talented young point guard Brandon Jennings.
"
So, essentially, the Bucks have to give up one of their two best current players to unload Jackson. Talk about a lose-lose situation.
I highly doubt any NBA team is going to trade for Jackson, given he's a 33-year-old wanting an extension despite playing poorly and acting selfishly.
If any team does deal for Jackson, it will be doomed from the start.
He's a proven distraction.
