2012 NFL Mock Draft: Analyzing the Prospects for the Offensive Line-Needy Teams
Without stonewall offensive lines in front of them, no way Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady produce they way they do.
Teams need solid offensive lines to be successful, it doesn't matter what type of offensive system they employ.
Let's look at which prospects would fill major O-line voids.
Riley Reiff - Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals are putting Kevin Kolb in a precarious position if they keep Levi Brown as their left tackle. He's one of the worst edge protectors in the league and they are in desperate need of an upgrade.
Iowa's Riley Reiff is the ideal pick for them at No. 13 overall.
At 6'6'' and a shade above 300 pounds, Reiff has a perfect left tackle frame and is the definition of a well-rounded offensive lineman.
His game doesn't have any glaring flaws, but he could gain more strength to deal with bulkier defensive ends in the NFL.
A great fit with great value for the Cardinals.
David DeCastro - Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys simply cannot contend for a Super Bowl with Derrick Dockery and Kyle Kosier in their respective guard spots.
Both were good stop-gap options in 2011 and paved the way for DeMarco Murray to have a fantastic stretch in the middle of the season, but they certainly don't symbolize the future.
DeCastro does.
He's the best guard prospect in the last decade and at 6'5'', 315 pounds with amazing technique, outstanding athletic ability and quarterback-like football IQ, he's the perfect fit.
End of story.
Mike Adams - New York Giants
Right tackle Kareem McKenzie has been a steady bookend offensive lineman for the Giants for the last seven years.
He's 32, is a free agent this year and was probably the most victimized trenchman for the G-Men this season.
They used a fourth-round pick on Indiana tackle James Brewer in last April's draft, but there's no guarantees that he'll be ready to competently take over the starting position in 2012.
Adams is a huge prospect at 6'7'' and 330 pounds.
He isn't the most polished tackle to enter the NFL, but he has good feet and can overpower most edge rushers.
At No. 32 overall, he represents perfect value and would fill a need for the defending Super Bowl champs.
