WWE Opinion: Did Zack Ryder Really "Sell Out" to WWE?

Justin WatryJun 7, 2018

Most know the news by now. Zack Ryder and his YouTube series is officially on the WWE's YouTube page. The move was made a few days ago.

The WWE Universe has been fairly negative towards this (shocking, right?). Some fans have even called Ryder a "sell out" for doing such a thing. Zack responded in kind on his Twitter account:

"I'm confused...Doesn't one need to receive money to "sell out"?"

Obviously, he is implying that he doesn't get paid to do his online show. Thus, how could he "sell out" if he isn't making any extra money?

I understand the fans' thought process here. He made a name for himself. On his own! Right when he became popular, he fell in line with everybody else on the roster, and the show now goes to Vince McMahon. Not his own channel.

Again, I get where fans are coming from, but I don't see him as a "sell out" one bit. There are a few reasons why. Here are just the main ones:

1. Last I checked, he worked for WWE. Not the other way around. They sign his checks and pay the bills, no? Ryder does not run the company and make major decisions. WWE does.

2. This is not really much news to me, personally. I let everybody know of this situation back in early August! Long before any "reports" elsewhere! The only difference is Ryder wouldn't make the switch back then. Now, he is much more comfortable with his role in the company. Thus, he feels "safe" with the Z! True Long Island Story!

3. He is acting like a professional. It is the same with what I covered with Sheamus yesterday. Work hard. Don't complain. Show up on time. Take advice well. All these things are crucial to success. Ryder helping out WWE here is going to be seen as a huge act of good-will.

Some will calling it "sucking up" or "selling out." I won't. It is just the way life goes. Being on the bad side of your bosses probably is not going to be a smart decision. Thus, it is best to make them as happy as possible.

Zack Ryder is doing just that.

I have said this over and over, but I will repeat it one more time. What happens behind the scenes will always be more important than what happens in front of the camera!
