Greg Oden: Portland Trail Blazers Center to Undergo Knee Surgery, Again
For Portland Trail Blazer fans, this, along with the team's inability to win on the road, is going to make your heads explode.
According to The Oregonian's Jason Quick, Greg Oden is going for yet another knee surgery, his fourth since being drafted No. 1 overall in 2007.
That's nearly four surgeries in four years.
According to Quick, Oden is undergoing an arthroscopic procedure to "remove debris from his right knee."
But here's the part that'll make your head explode:
The right knee wasn't even the knee in question before!
Oden is scheduled to have surgery on his left knee, the knee that had been examined in December, as soon as today, but the odds of him returning this season, especially after this new discovery in the other knee, is slim to none.
The once-dynamic big man out of Ohio State, Oden hasn't played a game since fracturing his patella in December of 2009.
He's played 82 games, all spread out over two-and-a-half seasons, and has averaged 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game throughout his short-lived career.
This past offseason, without a general manager, the Trail Blazers decided to amnesty Brandon Roy, but extend Oden an $8.9 million qualifying offer—a deal that was reduced to $1.5 million after his first "setback" in December.
This is just yet another example of how poor management has, and will continue to screw the Blazers until something is done.
The Trail Blazers, without Oden, are lurking as the eighth seed in the West with a 13-10 record. The more baffling part is that they own one of the best home records in the NBA at 10-1, but can't seem to get a win away from the Rose Garden, winning three of their 12 away games thus far.
It's not too late for them to turn it around, but getting the news that Oden is going for yet another surgery surely isn't helping the situation.
