Royal Rumble 2012 Winner: Sheamus' Rumble Win May Have a Bright Spot

Michael CahillJan 30, 2012

Sheamus winning the Rumble was a bit of a letdown especially given the possibilities.

With Chris Jericho in the ring and young up-and-comers like Dolph Ziggler taking part, there was every reason to get someone else the belt. Having Sheamus victorious was every bit a letdown.

For now.

There is one hope for the dismal Rumble win: that Sheamus ends up at WrestleMania facing The Undertaker for the WWE title.

What better way for the Deadman to go into what could be his final Mania, but as a champion. The WWE has run the gimmick of career vs. streak before, but few fans would expect that Taker get a chance to fight for a title, or defend one.

Sheamus and Bryan, while it has a slight chance of being compelling, is a feud that can wait. No one wants to see the ginger haired superstar against the lifelessness of any party, when they could see the streak put on the line against one of the more powerful personalities in the WWE.

The Elimination Chamber is a great shot for Taker to get the belt back, or for Sheamus to win it and give the Deadman a chance to finish his career on top.

Bryan is a fine fighter but he’s not good enough to wrestle in a show that has so much importance to the company. He doesn’t move the needle, he can’t build a solid feud. Even his heel turn isn’t much to shout about.

At the end of the day, The Undertaker needs real stakes. Since Brock Lesnar is a longshot for the event, and Triple H was better as a one-off, why not allow Shaemus to take on the Deadman?

That’s the only thing that could salvage this awful rumble win.
