Dallas Cowboys: 4 Late-Round Picks That Would Fit on the Team

Alex HallJun 7, 2018

Currently, the Dallas Cowboys scouts are down in Mobile, Alabama for the Senior Bowl and while they'll be looking at big names like Janoris Jenkins, the late round names will also be under the microscope.

Big D has had success in the late rounds of NFL drafts in the past, grabbing studs like Jay Ratliff and Orlando Scandrick in the seventh and fifth respectively.

This April, the Cowboys will be looking for more Scandrick and Ratliff-type players on the second day of the draft, and here are four players they should have their eye on.

Mike Daniels, Defensive Tackle, Iowa

1 of 4

Iowa's Mike Daniels would provide the Dallas Cowboys with much needed depth at defensive tackle, considering second year man Josh Brent is the only player on the roster behind starter Jay Ratliff.

Daniels is just 280 pounds however, which is a drawback, but if he were able to beef up 20 pounds or so he would fit into the Cowboys system. Columnists such as fellow Bleacher Report Dallas Cowboys FC Jason Henry sees the Iowa product as a seventh rounder and at that point in the draft depth is what the 'Boys will be looking for.

Who knows, a few years sitting behind Ratliff and Daniels could turn into a viable starter on the defensive line.

Matt Daniels, Strong Safety, Duke

2 of 4

Duke's Matt Daniels won't be drafted before the sixth or seventh round, but the Cowboys need to address the strong safety position with 2011 starter Abram Elam scheduled to be a free agent.

The 'Boys may have signed Elam by April, but Barry Church and Alan Ball are the only logical backups if he were to get hurt.

Both options are more comfortable at cornerback and drafting Daniels would give the team a true backup for the position instead of plugging in players from another position.

Keith Tandy, Cornerback, West Virginia

3 of 4

West Virginia cornerback Keith Tandy is new to the whole football thing, with no experience until joining the school four years ago but that hasn't stopped him from excelling.

Since becoming a full-time starter for WV back in 2009, he's had 61 tackles, seven batted balls and four interceptions. His talent has not gone unrecognized by his conference either, the Kentucky-born corner earned All-Big East honors in 2010.

It's no secret that the Cowboys need help at cornerback, and taking a late round flier on Tandy could pay off down the road.

Mychal Kendricks, Inside Linebacker, California

4 of 4

While California's Mychal Kendricks is certainly an injury risk coming off a shoulder injury, he could be a sneaky pick for Dallas in the draft.

The inside linebacker should be available in the fifth round, and with Anthony Spencer, Keith Brooking and Bradie James' contracts expiring, the Cowboys would be wise to draft a guy like Kendricks.

The 2012 linebacker corps for this team could very well be missing two or three of its members from a season ago, meaning depth will need to be added at both outside and inside positions.

He was named to second team All-Pac-10 back in 2010, leading the conference with three fumble recoveries that year, which shows the Cal product has talent and a knack for getting the football.

Kendricks is certainly talented, and if his shoulder is proven to be fully healed, the Cowboys could do much worse in the fifth round than this linebacker.
