New York Giants: 5 Late-Round Picks That Could Fit the Team
The New York Giants have drafted just about as well as any team in the league over the past decade, and a number of their star players have come in rounds four through seven.
There are a number of late round prospects that could excel with the Giants, but which prospects will be lucky enough to play for Big Blue? Only Jerry Reese and the Giants organization know the answer to that question, but here are five prospects that I believe the Giants should target in rounds four through seven.
Kevin Koger, Tight End, Michigan
1 of 5Projected Round: 4-5
Kevin Koger is not a well known prospect because he comes from a run-first offense at Michigan, but he has elevated his draft stock after an impressive week of the East-West Shrine game and practices.
Koger is known for his ability to block, but he proved that he has the ability to become a receiving threat after posting 23 receptions for 244 yards and four touchdowns this year.
Aaron Henry, Safety, Wisconsin
2 of 5Projected Round: 4-5.
Aaron Henry played his best in the biggest games of the season, with his best performance coming in the Bg Ten Championship against Michigan St.
Henry has 62 tackles with three tackles for a loss, three interceptions and three passes broken up this year, and he would be a great replacement for free agent-to-be, Deon Grant.
Henry will need some grooming, but he could be a key contributor on special teams right away.
Rokevious Watkins, Guard/Tackle, South Carolina
3 of 5Projected Round: 4-5.
Rokevious Watkins, who is a much better run-blocker than pass-blocker, was one of the key components for opening up running lanes for superstar running back Marcus Lattimore during the 2011 season.
Watkins has a huge 340 pound frame that NFL teams may want to slim down to around 325, and although the Giants have received better guard play as the season has progressed, adding depth is still and important aspect that needs to be addressed.
Josh Robinson, Cornerback, UCF
4 of 5Projected Round: 4-6
Josh Robinson decided to enter the draft after an impressive junior season that contributed 48 tackles, two interceptions and 15 pass breakups to the Knights defense.
He earned first-team All-Conference-USA honors for the year which marked the second year in a row that the defensive back was selected for the honor.
Robinson has had some great performances against college football's top talent which includes 2010s four overall pick, A.J. Green.
Carmen Messina, Linebacker, New Mexico
5 of 5Projected Round: 4-5
Carmen Messina has been one of the best linebackers in the nation over a three year span and he is one of the best fundamental tacklers in the country.
The linebacker was a force with his 142 tackles, 12.5 tackles for a loss, one interception, three sacks and one forced fumble in 2011, and he looks to be a productive NFL player.
The Giants need more help at linebacker and a sure tacker such as Messina could be a great fit.
