WWE News: How Can Zack Ryder Come Back More Popular Than Ever?
Am I the only one who is so over the John Cena/Zack Ryder/Eve/Kane angle?
Besides the really BAD acting last Monday night and the over the top "anger" by John Cena where he just turned the switch and snarled into the camera, it is a waste of talent and a waste of air time.
There could have been more to the angle than was shown. Yes, the "back injury" is an important part of Ryder getting over in the future, but Cena should have jumped in and caused tension between the two superstars.
Eve should have taken acting lessons, but we can discuss that later.
If Ryder is to be taken seriously, then the break from action is a good thing. It allows Cena to face Kane, get ready for the Royal Rumble and do the things he needs to do to be ready for the biggest pay-per-view event in the company. Maybe the angle leads to Kane finding the Undertaker knocking on his door.
Maybe this leads to a dramatic shift in Eve's character.
Ryder has potential to be another Cena. But work is needed. Hopefully that work is accomplished in the coming weeks.
Here are some other ways Ryder can come back and be more popular than ever.
Play off the Injury
1 of 5It sounds odd, but back in the 1980s, NWA stars made a huge comeback from injuries by nursing them on camera, talking through "phone interviews" and making it really look like they were hurt.
Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Jimmy Valiant were famous for it.
If we see Ryder rehabbing his injuries, it makes it look more real. The fans identify with it more and the crowds get behind him in his quest to become a champion again.
Keep Eve out of It
2 of 5She may be pretty, and the storyline is cute (like molly Holly and Spike Dudley) but it is not part of the plan unless Eve turns on Ryder and joins Kane as his "partner" in crime.
Ryder needs to go it alone. Shawn Michaels (for example) and Bret Hart were better superstars when they learned to wrestle on their own, without help from managers or women (in Michaels' case).
Ryder rose from the ranks of the Internet, and is still green, and needs to time to grow—even if he has had in ring experience for a few years.
Come Back and Immediately Challenge John Cena...
3 of 5If Cena has completely turned heel.
This does a few things. First it conforms Ryder thinks Cena is partially responsible for him getting the snot knocked out of him.
Second, it means Ryder is serious about being a top draw in the company. And the WWE has thrived on friends becoming foes in the past.
It works.
Get Your Title Back
4 of 5Forget the fact Ryder "wasn't cleared to wrestle" and the crap associated with John Laurinaitis. Great wrestlers get their titles back and come out swinging.
Maybe the greatest image of that was in 1983 when Harley Race put a bounty on Ric Flair at Starrcade and Dick Slater and Bob Orton, Jr. tried to put him out of action (for $25,000). Flair was in a neck brace and immediately went after Orton and Slater with a baseball bat.
It was epic.
But Ryder is nowhere near Flair's stature and he could not stay in the ring with an Orton or Slater.
But there is potential to show he is a real threat. If Jack Swagger has the US Title, go after it and TAKE IT AWAY.
Get Rid of the Comedy Act
5 of 5"Woo Woo Woo" will not win you a WWE Title and regardless of what Mick Foley says, Kane is more than just a human being.
Get rid of the purple, get rid of the sunglasses.
Find an edge to your character and go with it. Fans don't want vanilla. Fans want dynamic figures, brash characters and someone who can really take charge on the mic.
Ryder still needs to develop these traits.
