2012 NFL Draft: Where Will East West Shrine Stars End Up?
For NFL scouts, the 2012 season has begun.
Their search for this year’s diamonds in the rough stopped at the East-West Shrine Game. Here are five of the most talented prospects from the game and who they’ll land with and when.
5. Chandler Harnish (QB, Northern Illinois)
At 6’2”, 220 pounds, Harnish possesses solid size for a quarterback prospect. This past season, he threw for 3,216 yards and 28 touchdowns next to just six interceptions. Harnish is a phenomenal athlete and used his wheels to add 1,379 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.
He had a poor game on Saturday, going 8-for-14 for 52 yards and an interception, which hurt his draft stock.
Projection: Pittsburgh Steelers – sixth round
4. Jarius Wright (WR, Arkansas)
Wright blew up this season, hauling in 66 receptions for 1,117 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He doesn’t have great size at 5’10”, 180 pounds, but he’ll develop into a solid slot receiver. Wright caught two passes for 50 yards, including a 41-yarder, in the Shrine game.
Projection: Buffalo Bills – fourth round
3. Shaun Prater (CB, Iowa)
In his past three seasons with the Hawkeyes, Prater recorded a total of seven interceptions. He doesn’t have elite speed, but Prater will turn into a strong nickelback. The corner is a capable special teams player as well.
Projection: Washington Redskins – third round
2. Tank Carder (LB, TCU)
This year for the Horned Frogs, Carder recorded 70 tackles and two pick-sixes. The 6’2”, 237-pound backer is extremely versatile which will help his stock. He has been the heart and soul of the TCU defense for the past pair of seasons.
Projection: Baltimore Ravens – third round
1. Josh Norman (CB, Coastal Carolina)
Norman is a super sleeper who won’t necessarily hear his name called in the late rounds. The whole Shrine week skyrocketed his stock. According to WalterFootball.com, Mike Mayock said of Norman: “He's the hit of the week. I think he's a top-100 player who can climb into the top two rounds.”
Projection: Dallas Cowboys – second round
