2012 NFL Mock Draft: Players Gaining Most Stock from East-West Shrine Game
Though most people only are able to watch the game, the practices before the East-West Shrine Game are much more important. In the practices, scouts are able to see players go through many more reps than they do in the game.
Every year, a few players shine in the practices, elevating their draft stocks. This year, several players stood out and helped themselves.
Before this week, some of these players were hardly known, much less praised. That has now changed, and draft stocks have been dramatically affected.
Brandon Brooks, OG, Miami (Ohio)
1 of 6Unlike most 350-pounders, Brandon Brooks carries his weight well. On the field, Brooks benefits greatly from his size and possesses the athletic ability to play in space as well as in power blocking.
Because of his massive size, Brooks is a dominating run-blocker. The Miami (Ohio) lineman can pull and use his quickness or simply overpower a defensive tackle at the point of attack.
Dominique Hamilton, DT, Missouri
2 of 6All week long, Dominique Hamilton made a name for himself. The 6'5", 320-pounder seems like a perfect fit in a 3-4 defense, and he could sneak into the third or fourth round.
Hamilton isn't a great fit in a 4-3 scheme, but his combination of power and quickness makes him a potential 5-tech. Though he is already quite big, Hamilton could actually stand to add more weight, and if he does he could become an excellent player.
Josh Norman, CB, Coastal Carolina
3 of 6No player generated more buzz than Josh Norman. The Coastal Carolina star made plays all week, and his skills showed on the field.
A 6'0", 203-pounder, Norman has superb size to go along with his above-average athletic ability. Though Norman has some character issues, he may be talented enough to be selected in the third round.
DaJohn Harris, DT, USC
4 of 6An athletic defensive tackle, DaJohn Harris has always possessed the physical ability to dominate. He never seemed to quite put it together at USC, but he did flash all week.
At 6'4", 310 pounds, Harris has great size. He needs to improve in a few areas, but his first step and talent should help him develop into a rotational player in the NFL. With time, Harris could even become a starter.
B.J. Coleman, QB, Chattanooga
5 of 6Everyone knew B.J. Coleman had talent, and the East-West Shrine Game further solidified it. The 6'3", 235-pounder has perfect size and the arm strength to throw vertically. The Chattanooga star has the ability to start in the NFL.
Coleman looked accurate and poised this week, and he helped address two of his biggest issues. He wasn't plagued by inconsistency like he usually is, though his footwork was shaky at times.
In just a week, Coleman elevated his stock into the fourth round.
