2012 NFL Draft Projections: Destinations for Trent Richardson and 2012's Top RBs
The NFL is unquestionably a quarterback's league, but running back remains one of the most important positions in football.
Unless you have Tom Brady or Eli Manning, you aren't making noise in the playoffs without a consistent running threat.
Luckily for the rest of the league, there are several quality ball carriers in this year's draft class. Trent Richardson is the best by far, but some lesser known running backs will also make an impact next season.
Here are possible destinations for the best running backs in the class of 2012.
Trent Richardson, Alabama
As I said, Richardson is unquestionably the best back in the draft. He has exceptional speed, power and instincts. He's one of the most violent runners I've ever seen and I think he'll eventually be the best player from this year's class.
If Richardson is still on the board, Cleveland will take him at No. 4. However, I'm expecting someone else to trade up to snag him.
The Cincinnati Bengals have two first-round picks and could use an upgrade over Cedric Benson. If the Bengals are smart, they'll move into the top three by making a deal with either St. Louis or Minnesota.
Lamar Miller, Miami
Miller didn't get many headlines this season, but he still ran for 1,272 yards and nine touchdowns. He's solid between the tackles and is capable of busting out a big run every time he touches the ball.
Matt Forte will be a free agent this season, so Chicago should consider drafting Miller with the 19th pick. If the Bengals don't trade up, they'll also look at him at No. 21.
However, I'm expecting both to pass on him, leaving him for the Browns at No. 22. Peyton Hillis won't be back and Cleveland needs someone to take the pressure off of Colt McCoy.
Miller would be a great fit.
David Wilson, Virginia Tech
Wilson had a great junior season at Virginia Tech, rushing for 1,709 yards and nine touchdowns.
He's been slipping down draft boards lately, but I still expect him to sneak into the first round.
The Green Bay Packers have the 28th pick and they could use some help in the running game. They ranked 27th in the league in rushing yards (97.4 per game) and a more balanced attack would help them avoid another early playoff exit.
